Turbo "screeching"

Featured Replies

I know how everyone on briskoda loves a repost although I have searched on this and not really got a clear answer.

Basically, about a month ago my turbo went pop (and on fire lots) - 07 plate SE 27k -which I had replaced by skoda under warranty.

Brand new turbo in and I've started to hear a very high pitched whine which can only be described as a "screeching" sound at 2,000 rpm and only occurs at this point, after this noise stops the car still pulls all the way through the rev range to the redline without anymore screech (still getting the turbo "whistle") and no noticeable loss of power.

A mate of mine had a look at it and suggested maybe just a cracked pipe and it's only occuring at 2,000rpm as that's where the pressure peaks?

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Any help appreciated

Mine has done a high pitched screech at about 2000rpm for about 50,000 miles now, I don't worry about it :)

it can mean a few things, most likely is a small boost leek coming off the turbo.

Got the turbo replaced on a high mileage motor as an insurance policy even though it was not using any oil or making any strange noises. One brand spanking turbo later it now makes a noise like a fire engine which some believe is a sign it is about to go bang. Now done 8000 miles on it, runs perfect, uses no oil but still sounds the same. Go figure!!!!

mine makes a funny noise at 2000 rpm, Skoda looked at it under warranty and didnt report any problems. I have done 10 thou miles on it since and never had a problem.

Mine done this as well, about 7k miles after it started doing this the turbo seized.

The noise was almost like nails against a black board!

mine was making a siren type noise and looked like this when it got replaced:

still made boost mid to top end but felt weak low down which could easily have been down to a sticky VNT(?)
