Service time.....

Featured Replies

Got to service my VRS this weekend, first time I've done it myself so I need to know what bits to buy from where. It's done 45k and the cam belt was done last year, so I'm guessing I just need to do a standared service?

My questions are

1, Where to buy service parts, I'm not going to the main steeler thats for sure. So is there any body that sels a service kit?

2, What oil, how much?

3, How do I reset service light?

4, I've got a noisy front ARB drop link, best place to buy please?

I know these are a bit basic, but I dont get time to work on the car offten, so I'm haveing to chatch up:rolleyes:

If you do a search on here you'll find pretty in-depth answers to all your questions. ;)

I did my RS myself recently. I bought all genuine parts from the dealer inc the oil. Most of it was similar in price to the after-market places. The only parts that seemed excessive in price from the dealer were the brake discs (mine needed changing). I mentioned this & he gave me 15% disc on everything. The oil was actually a suprisingly good price from Skoda & obviously it saved me from worrying about grades/types etc.

You can find out how to reset your service light from your owners handbook but this will reset it to 'Fixed' servicing. If you want to keep/goto variable servicing you will need VagCom or a code reader that supports service resets. I bought one of these. About £80. Works really well.

HTH

Hi guys

by the way, Any idea if there is any link to download the official handbook for auto-mechanics in english? I have one in czech ("Dilenska prirucka") PDF. It is like 1000 pages thick, but very useful. Or what is actually the proper name of this document, so I can seek it? Sorry I am not english.

Thanx

I found that the VW garage gave the best price for oil - PD oil from skoda was £45, from Seat was £50 and from VW was £25 (for exactly the same oil)

I brought everything from Skoda, except the spark plugs and oil. Plugs were £15 cheaper for Exactly the same part that Skoda sell (Same manufacturer and part number) from local motor factor and oil was the Catstrol Edge recommended by some on here brought from Halfords on a trade card. I noticed a difference in the drive with the new oil straight away as the engine seemed to rev more freely :)
