18x8.5 ET 45 Will they fit?

Featured Replies

Right I have been running 18x8's for the last 12 months with no problems, even with all the speculation about 18's being the devils work on a Fabia!

I've beeen offered some direct swap rims that are 18x8.5 ET 45 from a Mk4 Golf with 215x35-18 tyres, I just wonder if anybody has fitted this size to a Fabia before?

Should I expect any problems?

I currently don't have any scrubbage issues, even fully loaded and running pretty low.

I'm not really looking for opinions, I'm looking for answers!

Cheers

Callum

Whats the offset on your 8s?

I would think they should go on ok,rear will be fine but front could be dodgy!

If it's a swap, try one first!

I'm not 100% sure of the current ET, but they were originally on a Mk4 Golf also, they only problem I had with the RS4's was I had to fit a 5mm spacer on the front to avoid the wheel hitting the coilovers.

It's a fair old trek for me to go if they don't fit, that's the only problem!

I'll just give them a go, should be cool

ET on the RS4s is more than likely 33 or 35,and you still needed a 5mm spacer?so a wider wheel with a higher offset will definetly hit the coilover, which means youll need a 5 or 10mm spacer to take it away from the coilies,so youll be leaving yourself uber close to the arch, depending of course on how low the car is.Your inner wings will also be destroyed if you do a lot of full-lock turning too.

Tyres with a little stretch will help!

What rims are the 8.5s out of interest?

Spacers is what I was worried about, there is a fair amount of stretch on the tyres, so hopefully that will help the arches, I best take some spare spacers with me just incase!

That would be telling about the rims, you'll have to wait and see:rofl:

Thanks for the advice:thumbup:

Do it!

How do you like the 18's Effect the handling or acceleration much?

I was mulling over the switch to 18's to get a touch more clearance with the monster speed bumps in work!

Acceleration I haven't really noticed much difference, handling wise, it doesn't feel quite as sharp as it did on 17's, but with the suspension set-up properly you'll be fine:thumbup:

It is an added bonus with the ground clearance too:D

Do it mate. Just make them fit :P Wheels on it just now are sweet though. Craig David says risk it :D lol

The only issue I see is that 215/35x18 tyres from a golf4 will throw a major speedo error on the fabia because the rolling radius on a golf is a lot larger than a fabia. I dont think you will get the appropriate stretch from the required tyre size without making increasing the chance of severe tyre damage and poor roadholding as the sidewall is very short.

215/35/18 is actually undersized for the Golf, you should be fine tyre wise.

Did a rim swap with a lad from ED38 at the weekend!

Check these suckers out, weighing in at 18x8.5!! Didn't think they where going to fit, but fitted spot on, with a nice bit of stretch!!

Has changed the look of the car again!!

Speedo reads perfectly, and no fitting or rubbing issues at all, drives better with these on than it did with the others?

Glad it worked out. They look great!
