Sound Deadening Jacket

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A few times now I've heard reference to a Seat engine sound deadening jacket of some sort which will fit the Fabia. I'm quite interested in this so what I want to know is: Where can I get one, how much do they go for, is it easy to fit, and crucially, is it any good?

Tried a search but to no avail...

I ask because last week I was tasked with taking my mum's old car (Peugeot 307 1.6 petrol, pretty unpleasant experience!) down to Perth to part ex it with her new car and take that back up to Lewis. It's a Peugeot 207 1.6 HDI, nice wee car, and I was stunned at how much less engine noise there is!

Cheers for any help

the less engine noise is due to the peugeots common rail engine... they started using it back in late 99 well before the VAG world...

Pump Deuce is loud :o

I have it fitted to my vRS. I got it as part of a deal for a strut brace off a fellow member.

It does take some of the clatter out of the engine, its certainly less audible than my mothers vRS, but it still sounds like a tractor! It sounds a little bit smoother but I wouldn't think its more than a few decibles quieter.

Its basically just some foam stapled together that fits around the engine block. I think it was something ridiculous like £40 new. Not worth it IMO.

I see...I might still be interested for that money but no more. Would it be a case of getting in touch with a Seat dealer?

On t'other hand, I can get my hands on a fair bit of leftover sound deadening from friends with boats, so I might just cobble something together, as long as it doesn't pose a fire risk or something

Seat dealer should be able to get hold of it. I'll have a look tommorrow to see if theres a part number on it mate

I sure I read on here some time ago about someone adding more sound proofing to the engine, it had pics of it as well. Like you I can't find it when I searched and I did not bookmark it. It's not on Fabia-vrs.com either. :thumbdwn:

Thank you very much, would be great if you could

i got it off a fellow member and it does make it quieter on the motorway when cruising

The part number in that thread matches whats under my bonnet

I thought, from my reading, that Pump Deuse was actually, from a design point of view, the better technology but that CR is more cost-effective to produce?

Thanks to you all, sounds like I've found my next little project

Quieter cruising is no bad thing, since I will soon be spending a lot of time on the M8 and A9 :)

I didn't know Runrig were so popular with the under 20's :rofl::rofl:

HIya,

I'm intrested in making the cabin a bit quieter too. I've noticed my Fabia already has a foam cover around the back of the cam cover anyway. that Seat part is basically twice as much material, making a box shape around the Cam cover.

Would it really be worth spending £40 on this?

Maybe it's a better idea to put some (high temperature resistant) sound deadening to the underside of the bonnet skin (Dynamat make a specific underbonnet sticky stuff) and then put the bonnet carpet back ontop of that.

Surely that would make more of an impact for similar outlay?

Anyone got any thoughts on that?

You'd be surprised ;) very popular in Scotland, even amongst the younger lot (especially up north).

Grew up listening to them, and my family speak Gaelic, so it's no surprise really.

Sounds like a good enough idea, but I'm no expert...

I will give it a go when I get back from Holiday.

I sound deadened my R32's front two doors with Dynamat, and also the Spare wheel well.

The difference to road noise was immense.

So I'll def do the same to the Fabia soon

At first I thought I knew what you were on about.. but now I'm not so sure?

I always thought the sound deadening in question was an extra piece of foam that fitted under the engine cover? and was about £25? Also a Seat part? Possibly they both exist?.. sorry, more questions than answers here but I'm pretty sure Wardy had the part I'm on about on his Fabia?

EDIT: Read the thread posted above and see it's both a jacket and an under engine cover lump.

Sound deadening seems to be a bit of a can of worms!

To clear up any confusion you may have over my suggestion, let me try and clarify a bit better.

This is the part that's supposed to be from a Seat, and costs around £40.

and this is it fitted to the engine

And this is My suggestion:

I'd add dynamat sound proofing to the underside of the bonnet (but not to the same extreme in that picture) and have that hidden by the existing underbonnet carpet. this in effect would produce a double layer of sound deadening, which should cut out lots of noise coming from the bonnet lid.

The fabia is great in that the bonnet lid had a rubber seal going all the way around which effectively seals the sounds in.

  • 1 year later...

Seat part number for the sound deadner is 0381039549. I want one. I will see how much £ they want for one tommorow.

Ta, I've had one for ages now though :giggle:
