Cambelt specialist in the south

Featured Replies

Theres a good chance that I will buy a fabia vrs this weekend, its on a 53 plate, but theres no evidence of a cambelt change. Seeing as its done 62,000 miles, I think I'll get it done for peace of mind, although would a specialist be able to see if its been done recently or not? I'm not sure if I would take it to my local skoda dealer as I've heard bad things, so I need a independent specialist who has done the cambelts before, anybody know of a good one in the south? Don't mind travelling a little way to get it done properly tho. How much will I be looking at for a new cambelt, tensioners, water pump plus labour?

Any help would be great,

Cheers,

Stan

try jkm in portsmouth, i reckon it will be about £350

Where south are you thinking ?

I have been quoted about £200 for mine in Fleet. Although that didn't include the water pump

I've given JKM in portsmouth an email, I'd be looking at £330 for cambelt, tensioners, metal impeller water pump and antifreeze. I'd be quite happy paying that as at least I'll know they'll do a good job. Cambelts definitely need to be done by a specialists.

Thanks again to Teflon Tom who recommended them.

Cheers,

Stan

When should the cambelt be changed on a VRS ? The manual says 75K miles (well actually says it in Km), do people agree with this ?

Hi Jules, after doing some research, VAG now recommend that the cambelt is done after 4 years or 60k miles, whichever is sooner.

Stan

Agree on those revised figures, despite the fairly huge amount of confusion that surrounds the issue - you even get different dealers telling you different information!

And another vote for JKM; if you're near them, use them  - great level of service and professionalism.

Cheers for the recommendation Wardy, after looking on their website, they seem to know what they are doing.

I live near Bournemouth so I'll pop along the M27 and be there in no time.

I have a Clio 182 at the mo which I'm selling to get the fabia vrs, on the clio there is an auxiliary belt that has to be changed every 36k miles, anything similar on the vrs?

Cheers,

Stan

You'll have no problems with them, you can be sure of that :)

Not sure about the aux belt issue. Something to ask Kate at JKM when you book in for the cambelt/tensioners/waterpump change....
