Lower Front Arm bush?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I recently had my car serviced at the stealerships about 6 weeks ago. When I picked it up the lady said "The front rear arm bushes may need replacing for the MOT".

After checking this great forum out I found that most people seem to go down the Powerflex route. Looked online at Powerflex to see that there were two possible choices to purchase:- Front wishbone front bush PFF85-601 and Front wishbone rear bush insert PFF85-602. So I rang the stealership back up to try and reconfirm in my mind whether it would be the insert and the lady said that what I would require is "Lower front arm bush" ... .. .

So I guess what I'm trying to ask is, how do I know which ones I need? Is there a visible check I can do? Also is Powerflex.co.uk the best place to go and I presume I would need to order 2 as they do not come in packs of 2?

Appologies if this is covered in any other thread but I have read the technical guides. Ps - Car is a Fabia VRS 55 plate with 43K on the clock

The bush is called a console bush the wishbone inserts into it if you look under the car behind the front wheel and have someone push the wheel toward-es the back of the car HANDBRAKE ON you will see the wishbone move in the bush they use ly tear at the top :)

The Lower front arm (aka wishbone) has two bushes; a front one and a rear one. The front ones rarely wear but can be replaced with push-in Powerflex ones, although the originals are hard to remove and usually requires cutting.

The rear ones (aka console bushes) wear quite quickly in the VRS because they have holes (see pics). I would advise replacing them with the solid rubber ones used on the SEAT Cupra Console bushes - Part No 6LL407183. They are inexpensive and give a improved really solid feel to the steering. But you need the special tool or make one; as described along with all the other info on how to do both these bushes as DIY available on this website via "search".

the front wishbone bush is the powerflex PFF85-601 you get 2 per pack (around 35 quid). the other powerflex part is an insert to stiffen the standard console bushes. as your doing the front do the rear (console) bushes too, you need 2 Seat Cupra Console bushes - Part No 6LL407183 from a Seat dealer ( around 12 quid for 2) these are alot stronger than the standard ones that fail around 30000-50000 miles. fitting should take 2 hours at a garage, so around £160 in total, or follow the guide on the other posted reply and do it yourself. these mods will stiffen up the front and do cause alittle more vibration and noise, but in my opinion not much. hope this helps

All,

Thank you very much for clearing this up and your help and expertise is appreciated!

As Jules as pointed out that the front ones rarely wear out and the rear ones wear quickly then it must be the rear ones. I will order the SEAT Cupra Console brushes and will have them fitted by a mate mechanic who has the tools.

Once again, thank you all - Saved me a lot of hastle.

i would get the fronts done at the same time though saves a job of having to get the arms off again!
