Typical MPG on a 1.9tdi 100bhp Fabia?

Featured Replies

I'm well impressed with the MPG of my (new to me) fabia.

In the first 4days of owning her, she's done 48mpg over 300miles (half a tank showing on the dial now).

Is this MPG figure typical of this car?

I took off the intercooler hose yesterday and had a look inside the (throttle valve??) (the thing that the EGR sits under), and it was quite dirty inside. Not majorly dirty like some pictures I've seen, but still quite oily and mucky. I sprayed loadsa carb cleaner in there, but I do think it's gonna have to be a dismantle it sort of job.

Will cleaning this yeild any extra benefits?

Or is the MPG 48mpg fairly typical of this car?

How have you measured it? Running on 185/60 R14 tyres, mine used to get aorund 55mpg.

You might need to "learn" to drive it economically, if you've never had a derv before. There's ways to get more, but 48mpg isn't a bad start. Also, the type of driving will affect it. Around town, 48 is very good.

I too would think 55mpg with a careful foot under mixed driving. :)

48mpg is what the long term trip computer has said over the last 300miles.

The car is running regular steel wheels (14inch).

I've changed the oil (VW 507) and airfilter this week too.

Yesterday I saw 50mpg on a fast motorway dash, so overall I am very impressed.

so it sounds like my car is doing what it should, so thanks for the feedback guys

where did you get the vw 507 oil from?

Mate,

I bought the oil from Gti International show in Bruntingthorpe. Loads of traders selling 5litre cans for £30, so I bought 15litres worth

(Quantum Longlife VW 504/507)

My mother has a PD100 Fabia and when my father fills up and works out fuel economy, she always gets over 50mpg, except in cold winter. On the last fill she did 511 miles in a tankfull and averaged 58 mpg. Last year the yearly average was 52 mpg. My vRS normally averages 45-50 mpg per tankful.

I tend to do mostly motorway driving and usually get anywhere between 450 - 550 miles to a tank, fuel computer reads average 65ish mpg.

Really depends on how heavy my right foot is:thumbup:

Your real mpg could be way off if using the computer...brimming the tank will tell you how accurate that dodgy computer man is...lol

I have calculated by brimming the tank and calculating actual mpg and is only 2 - 3 mpg out which is a major surprise as my last car was about 18mpg out!

Im getting 55mpg on my current Fabia Bohemia 1.9tdi estate but on my old one(1.9tdi comfort estate) after about 60,000 miles i was getting over 60mpg but i only have about 35,000 miles on my current wagon and the old one had narrower tyres and no roof rails

Yep - sure fire way to get good economy is to run on 165/70 R14 tyres, "eco" ones too.

Just don't expect blistering cornering grip.

I normally get around 60-61 ish MPG. I did one very careful run home from work the other week and got it upto 71.5mpg before I got bored, after about 55 miles, I started driving normally again. I think the lowest I've had it is about 53mpg.

I've had two 1,9 PD100 Fabia estates. The older one gave me better MPG - I think the changes made to the engines to meet Euro 4 requirements give better CO2, but at the cost of worse MPG.

I usually get 55-60Mpg on any long distance trip (sort of 50miles plus+ otherwise its more 45-55Mpg)
