 Just got a quote to add cruise control to my current policy, which expires start of December, and they (Bell) want an extra £40! :thumbdwn:

I know many of you will suggest i don't bother telling them, but I decided from day one with the vrs that I was going to do everything properly - you never know!

Whilst i'm here, the standard symphony head unit will play a cd with mp3 files, but only recognise 'music cds' as opposed to 'data cds'.

Surely if it can read mp3 files there is a way to get it to play cds with more than say 12 tracks??

First off..WTF? Hastings didn't want anything extra on my policy for the Cruise or even the uprated bushes. How are they working that out for you?

Can you explain more about the symphony playing mp3's cuz to my knowledge it just plain doesn't, too old really. And are you having trouble playing CD's with more than 12 tracks? if so your head units prob faulty TBH.

As I have a Stream HU (which definitely does play mp3s), I can't give you an answer as to if the Symphony will play them or not.

However, mp3s should, as you know, be written as data with (ideally) each album being written to its own folder to make access and display easier.

Have you ensured that the cd is finalised & maybe you could try using a different cd writing program - cdburnerxp is free or Nero (which isn't) if you need a few bells & whistles. Try writing at a lower speed than usual with good quality cds to make sure that side isn't causing any problems!

He said that even though its an optional extra, it is no longer standard.....Really disappointed to be honest.

Yeah it only plays 12 tracks on a CD, but it will play .mp3 , .wma , .aac files.

I'll give it a go mate, cheers

My Fabia has cruise control. Do I have to declare this as a modification to my insurance?? It was only £125 on the original receipt for the car to add it as an option, Forty quid seems pretty steep. Mine isn't declared to insurance but I thought that since its factory fitted I didn't have to to be honest.

HUH!!?!!?

This is the standard CD head out of a Fabia mk1, yeah? lol.. I'm so confused.. Did they change the Software in these units on later models? What year is your Fabia?

If it was specced onto the car at build, then no... it's "standard"

Now i'm confused!:rubchin: lol! Yeah mk1 1 fab, 05 vrs. I don't know if the person who had it before has done anything to it, but often it comes up with 'Error' when trying to play CD's, but if i turn it off then back on, it will play them!>?

Wrong.

Standard is "as per manufacturers standard specification", i.e. before any options.

We've done this in another thread recently , and the answer is that different insurance companies have different definitions.

Some count factory fit options as a "standard" car and others don't.

The only way to know for sure is to ask your insurers.

Aye, but it's better to be safe than sorry, and saying that factory options are covered blanket-fashion isn't really helpful to the OP.

I Just burnt an MP3 CD with some in a folder and some on the route.

I'll be right back ;)

The Symphony HU is just a CD player isn't it? So it should only play CDs, not mp3s.

Are you talking about mp3s burnt on to the CD? The CD needs to be burnt as an Audio CD, not as a data CD i.e. on a standard CD you can burn about 300 mp3 files, but only about 18 audio files.

Is this right?

I used to have cruise control on my fabia and told my insurance company who said they wouldn't be able to cover me anymore as it improved 'performance'...

i had to explain to them exactly what it was...!

The Symphony in my Fabia is AUDIO cd only... no MP3 playback..

Just comes up as 1 silent track like older CD players do.

Dunno if skoda revised this? Maybe the later ones had different software?

Babs & Grr666.. Didn't mean to mislead, genuinely thought if it came out of the factory with it the insurance company knew via registration. Ya learn summit everyday :)

No problem, some don't care, others want to know if you've got non-OEM-spec mats in there!

Insurance is generally ridiculous!

 I think mine is on the way out or something! cheers for having a check and confirming!

That's a very good suggestion.. though Blank CD's are now optimized for higher speeds they are still much much happier burning between 16x - 24x. You should also avoid burning at the fastest speed your drive can handle as this is asking for trouble.

It used to be the case that the slower the better, but nowadays some blank CD's can actually produce worse results at 1x - 8x.

If it acts this way with factory pressed silver CD's then it's looking like a HU problem I'm afraid. Especially if turning it on and off sometimes resolves it. :(

My 07 plate vRS has a symphony CD Radio and this will not play MP3s.

No mention of MP3 in the manual either.

I'm going off topic here but...so, so true!

I informed my insurers yesterday that I'm moving away to college...they wanted an extra £600!!

Needless to say, I'm going elsewhere.
