vRS 2,0 (200) TFSi Fuel Consumption (Real World)

Featured Replies

Can any of you guys who own one either DSG or Manual tell me what the fuel consumption is of these cars really is like.

I know the "Official" consumption figures according to SUK are:

vRS 2,0 TFSi (200) DSG

Urban - 27,2

Xtra Urban - 45,6

Combined - 36,7

vRS 2,0 TFSi (200) Manual

Urban - 27,7

Xtra Urban - 47,9

Combined - 37,7

However I tend to take these with a very unhealthy dose of salt, so to aid me in my decision what sort of figures do you get in the Real World.

TIA.

IJ.

Hi there, I have a 2.0 TFSI with MANUAL box. On average I do 20 miles a day (10 each way) to work and back and maybe 60 to 100 miles at the weekend. All of this is a mixture of A/B roads, Motorways and town driving. I don't drive with a heavy right-foot and I stay in as high a gear as possible. I would call this real-world driving and I get on average between 30 and 32 mpg. However on a recent long run (300 mile round trip) I managed about 37-38 mpg. Hope that helps ?

You sound like you do a similar sort of route to mine, with the exception of motorway driving which I only do about 8 times a year when I go to the West Country.

The thing with me is I have days off so when I have those I rarely use the car, so that'll save a bit.

I drive 2.0 TSI manual and would say the "Official" consumption figures are about right if you have a heavy right foot may be slightly less, but to be honest, I dont hammer mine but I do like to drive it.. if you know what i mean, I have got 39 on a round trip 300 miles on mixed roads.

Whats your average annual mileage, I've just been faced with the same petrol v's diesel decision

The best I can manage on the way to work is very low 40's :)

On the way home, low 20's :(

Whats your average annual mileage, I've just been faced with the same petrol v's diesel decision

I'm a mere 5-7k a year, so taking the advice of people here & the dealer, I've made the decision to go back to petrol, however I'm doing so with a certain amount of trepidation as I'm pretty certain that I'm going to miss the outstanding economy of my diesel engined Golf as I've been with diesel engined cars for the last 11-12 years!

I mean when I go away for a break in Somerset/Exmoor I'll fill up, in Guildford, I'll go down to Somerset/Exmoor for a few days, rattle up probably 350-400 miles there & back & still have loads of fuel left and I mean 45-50% tank!

Normally when I'm doing the normal run of the mill stuff (work etc), I only fill up my Golf once every 4 weeks (pay-day usually), I reckon it'll be once every 2-3 weeks with a petrol model, the thought of which sort of cheeses me off a bit, but I guess I'll just have to wait & see.

I've test driven a vRS 170CR DSG, as was amazed at the quietness & performance of the engine, however this doesn't compensate for the extra cost of the diesel engine and it would take a considerable length of time for it to pay for itself.

Have you considered that petrol and diesel are both about £1/litre at the moment ? 40 litres of diesel goes a lot further than 40 litres of petrol IMO.

Yes I have, but the difference in price between petrol & diesel is about £800-1000, also due to the nature of my driving (frequent short trips) a 170CR vRS isn't a practical option as it has that wretched DPF thing on it and it wouldn't get "cleaned out", without having to go out & do special trips just to do it.

Mine's been no bother but I have done 1k miles in the last 10 days. The onboard display suggests between 47 and 51 mpg too with the cruise set at 75mph

Hi I had the same problem which one petro or derv I do about 7 - 10 k per year and I thought about the petrol but plummed for the diesel and I think long term its the right thing:thumbup:

Oh be quiet, you're making me jealous. :orb_toung

@seboni121, you do more mileage than I do, 7k in a year is a bad year for mileage for me!

I was advised the minimum mileage you should do in a year before considering a diesel was 10k, well I'm nowhere near that.

Exactly the same here, test drove the diesel the other day, when I was first looking I heard a 07/early 08 diesel and it was noisy compared to the one I test drove the other day. I'm on 22,000 miles in just under 3 years with my current car and I'm ordering the petol next week

Way to go mate

Who cares about fuel economy....lifes to short!!

Realistically though, normal 2 enjoyable driving 28 - 33 mpg, running 240 bhp.

i averaged 12.6mpg today at the nurburgring if that helps. i had better fuel economy with my stage 1 remap, with stage 2 ive dropped about 2mpg.. can still hit 36-38mpg on a motorway cruise though. its all about how hard youpress the loud pedal

If i cane it i get about 36mpg on the way home from work. 40-45 going to work. Obviously i seem to be in no great rush getting there.

i dread to think what the petrol would give me.

A friend of mine took a heavily modded Evo FQ360 (bhp claimed at 470) round the Nurburgring last year, at one point the mpg was showing zero!!!! :D

The official urban figure's about right, but the 'average' looks a bit too healthy due to that very high extra-urban figure, which I don't think any of us will realistically achieve on a day-to-day basis, unless you happen to run for long distances at 55mph :)

I'm finding my overall average is 32, calculated by mileage between fill-ups. Round town 25-30, m/way trip usually around 34-35 with cruise @80, upto 38 if I do 70-75.

HTH,

Steve

EDIT: Worth noting that I'm running a stage-1 remap, 233bhp proven, but this hasn't adversely affected economy and in some cases, longer runs especially, has helped to improve it. Pipercross panel filter and using either Shell V-Power or Tesco 99. Worth remembering what doing your calcs that the TFSi should really be fed Super Unleaded, 97RON or higher, where ever possible. So that's actually more expensive than diesel at the moment.

More info

hi got a vrs t fsi this week, manual , on a run this week 150 miles trip says ave 42 .4 mpg dont know how accurate this is.

Had my 06 Petrol for a year and done 12k miles (it's at 80k now) and the trip hasn't been reset yet.

Shows 34.5 mpg with a mixture of steady daily commute of 18 miles each way and a bit more fun at weekend.

Have thought of swapping it (put on here but no real interest :( ) but the quality is so good that I still have it and still love it.......................unless I see a great deal on a Diesel 2.4 Alfa 159.

I know it would probably fall apart but I'm even more of an Alfa nut than Skoda one!

I think these figures have put me off the vRS a bit more, I think I'd like a bit more economy than what it seems to be giving most of you here.

So I think it'll be the 1,8 DSG Elegance for me, which is less thirsty, not much slower (0,6 sec 0-62mph), not that I'll be using the full power of the car anyway, it's lower insurance & cheaper to buy and initially better specced as well.

It's also less prominent, to the boys in blue & thieves.

Ta All.

Have you completely written off the 170 vRS?

It has really useful performance, excellent mid range, & great economy considering the turn of speed available.

I've only had mine for a few weeks, so have filled up only three times, but have seen 50mpg each time.

I know it costs more up front but with fuel price rising, & differential between petrol & diesel shrinking,

I would have thought you would recover your costs, & enjoy the drive along the way:)

I think I have because the best price I can get for a vRS 170CR DSG is £19410, that's with:

Rear Parking Sensors

Metallic Paint (Blue!)

Light Assistant Package inc Rain Sensors.

Xenons

Heated Seats

MDI + Ipod cable

Maxidot

I don't do that many miles (7k pa maximum), I've been told that for a diesel to pay for itself you'd need to do at least 10k miles pa, so it doesn't make financial sense to get one.

It used to when I worked in Portsmouth & commuted everyday or most days from Surrey (100 miles a day), but now I work nearer to home & only do 14 miles a day, it would only cause problems with the DPF as well.

I did think about using DTD, but that means doing a private sale & I don't want to do that as I know cars get stolen that way, also having a personalised number plate complicates things too, especially when you want to keep/transfer it.
