Just bought a new vrs, what a car!!

Featured Replies

Just bought me new vrs, collected yesterday.

All I can say is what a beast, it just eats up the road

I've been looking through the service history and it says on every service page "Customer supplied own oil". I guess this means the previous owner knew his stuff. Was it anyone on here? The registration number is KM05 H**, and it's bright red.

Here's a pic:

nice sure youll have lots of fun drives in it

welcome well done :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers for the response guys. I've been hovering around the forum for ages. I'm a member of the seatcupra.net forum, and just sold the old toledo.. Glad I did too

Justa quick question though, how do you get rid of that stupid smirk on your face when you put your foot down??

For me it was the first B-road blast where I realised the turn in wasn't as quick as I was expecting. Breathe deeply and it goes away though :)

Good choice, great colour, enjoy :)

Nice! Right colour too

Nice. Mk1s are lovely in red.

nice :) looks really good in red

Easy really, just get it mapped, uprate the suspension, brakes and rear arb and you will not have time to smirk, you'll be too busy looking where your going.

:iagree: although the map should be 2nd or 3rd on the list, standard suspension really doesn't compliment a remap ;)

Don't want to start a fight but the re-map is pretty much at the bottom of my list, I can't get down the power I have in the corners as it is, so it's all about the handling.

Same here, albeit a couple of years younger:

Well if we're sharing pictures:

Glad you like it, nice car. Welcome to the VRS world.

I said at first the car was quick enough as standard and would not mod it. Then I met Des and a raff of other Briskodians, and look where that first thought ended up.

I said at first the car was quick enough as standard and would not mod it.

I think it sits on that strange balancing point where it's frustratingly quick for normal roads because you can't really put your foot down in anything less than the NSL without storming over the limit, yet not quite quick enough to make you clench when you boot it out in the open :)

I don't have any plans to mod mine, but that's really a combination of insurance and not being entirely sure that I've worked out all of the gremlins yet. Need to trace the gearbox noises and sort the fuel economy before I start to fiddle :)

Cool, glad you guys like it..

darrenbakes, your car is identical, almost down to the reg number. Weird or what.

As for the suggestions of remaps etc, I think I will keep it as standard until I get 'bored' of it, then get a remap for it. Will be like a new car all over again.

Can't forget the first time I test drove it. Coming from a 1ltr corsa, then a toledo, having to boot it everywhere, got into the octavia and  when the turbo spooled up

All I've gotta do now is fit cruise control and fix the electric window switch and I'll be laughing..

Just a quick one..

Do all vrs's have a 'flat spot' in 3rd gear while really booting it? When the turbo fully kicks in at about 2000rpm, it pulls really well, then eases off, then pulls hard again to the limiter. There's no weird noises or anything, and I can't hear any air leaks in the engine bay.

Been told it could be the throttle body needs a clean or the Maf is on it's way out. Any thoughts?

Mine pulls flat through all the gears - the only time it'll hesitate is if you're not giving it 100% from standstill so it vents a bit of the boost on the understanding that you're probably not going to use it :)

My money's on the dirty throttle body. Give it a clean and the flatspot should go away.

Another thing: I never EVER keep it under 2000rpm :D

You all know me well enough to know that I would never suggest a re-map on its own as the first modification.

It was said as a whole package, to be done at the same time.

Welcome, nice car! You'll probably see me around Huddersfield.....

I've owned mine 2 years now, and I'm still enjoying the original 180bhp. I had a trial map, which was epic, but there are plenty of other things to improve. I've accidentally taken the safe route by replacing the suspension and brakes first! Also getting the engine running as perfect as possible is important. Sorting out any little vacuum and boost leaks, and giving it a really good service will make it feel like a new engine. I'd recommend fitting a boost gauge too, so you can properly monitor the pressures.

Enjoy 3rd gear! The acceleration is semi-orgasmic (fully-orgasmic with remap)! The speed does pile on pretty fast though, so watch out merging into motorway traffic at tripple figures! It's easily done....

Welcome

Mines still standard (although closer to 190 than 180) and to be honest I think the power is more than enough for the standard brakes and suspension and the sort of driving I do (like a granny lol)
