which exhaust for my furbie?

Featured Replies

I had my system done at Prospeed in Cardiff.

I think it was £300 all in for a decat section and then cat back with 6x4 oval tip off a backbox about 1/2 the size of the standard one. The standard downpipe is in place but the cat was removed and a tube section put in place.

It is guaranteed for as long as I own the car.

With regards to the cat, what Charlie did for me is cut the CAT out, but he welded a flange onto either end of it, then flanges onto the standard exhaust system and the decat pipe, so when I come to sell the car its simply 3 bolts and the CAT goes straight back in.

The quality of the bends is second to none. On some cheap systems like certain Powerflows, you can see squashes in the pipe where its been bent. Not on mine.

I was a little disappointed before getting the decat, as it took about 1/2 an hour to warm up before ANY noise came out of it, and it felt no different.

Chuffed with it with the decat though. Nice and burbly when warm and felt noticably less restricted with it removed at higher RPMS.

Also, I think the reason why they are so cheap is because they are not 100% T304 stainless steel, the pipework is painted black beacuse it appears to be stainless/chromium steel which would sound about right because the last Jetex system I bought for my S40 T4 was just that.

TBH, its a bit misleading as they do state it is a STAINLESS system on their website.

Does this mean if it was unpainted it would rust after some time?

Just out of curiosity, how much is a bog standard OEM Skoda system?

Yep, as its just mild steel which is chromium plated. They just paint it for added protection. The only trully stainless steel part is the tailpipe trim I think.

I have an email on my system saying what the retail prices where. Thats well odd. But very good if it is that price.

The reason its painted black is because its the prototype (its a mild steel section from the cat to the backbox, and a stainless backbox, but the retail system is all stainless) and the reason the rear trim is bolted on rather that welded on, is its the prototype - it was a work in process!
