Wing Mirror Casing

Featured Replies

It never rains, it pours. Got stuck in a muddy field yesterday and had to be towed out for the first time in my life. Then today I returned to my car and some piece of **** has driven past and smashed my mirror housing off. Did a search and all the threads seem to be on broken glass, which is the opposite of mine. My painted shell has been smashed to a thousand smithereens, and the indicator is cracked as well. But the glass is ok and it still moves!

So my question is how much is it going to cost to replace the casing and indicator? I'd like to personally thank the p***k who did it, but I'd like 10 minutes in a darkened room with them more.

primed casing from the dealer:70 euro; 60-80 euro to have it painted professionally; indicator: 10 euro; a new lead if you need:20 euro and 10-20 eruo to have them fitted if you can't do it youself. However, these prices are quoted in Ireland. If you are in another country, they could be much cheaper.

Just replaced the complete mirror assembly on mine. If you obtain the paint colour number from your original documentation or under the carpet in the boot, Halfords will make up an airosol can(is that how you spell it?) for €20.

On removing my old mirror, I had nothing to lose by dismantling it, I tried to take the mirror top plastic housing off as per Haynes manual. The manual is totally wrong, it says to insert a screwdriver through a hole in the bottom and release a clip then pull the housing up over the mirror. If you try this you will cause damage because there are two screws behind the mirror from the housing in to the cover.

What Haynes Manual were you using? AFAIK there is none for the Octy II, but if it exists I'd be very interested in buying it.

Sorry it was the Octy 1, I assume the mirrors are the same.

I have no picture but if you remove the mirror glass (without braking) it should be obvious because you can see the plastic clips and screws.

Got a price back of £102 for the case (painted) and indicator lens. Want to go on a random killing spree.

I phone a few car dismantlers up and obtained a 2nd hand one for €50 + spray can €20
