TURBO BLOWN !!! need help please

Featured Replies

hi on saturday my standard turbo finaly gave in with a bang and lots of smoke. bt wat woriies me is that once i pulled over i found that the bearing brom the turbo had came out of my miltek de-cat system along with all off my engine oil is this normal when a turbo blows as seemed strange to me ??????

I doubt all of the engine oil came out, but it's normal for a lot of oil to get blown out when the bearing seals fail. When was the last time you checked the engine oil level? A common problem with turbo failure is low engine oil level. Bits in the exhaust are more likely to be turbine blades.

pretty mutch all the oil is only just showing on the dip stick. was fine wen i checked about two weeks ago. only blew once was mapped ..

Who mapped it?

A map cannot be blamed directly for turbo failure. The turbo may have already been starting to fail before the map. The map would have made it fail faster, but it will have gone eventually.

Even a small amount of oil on the dipstick will mean there is still a lot of oil in the sump, as the dipstick goes nowhere near the bottom. Many people have driven with none on the dipstick all. Doesnt matter anyway now as all the oil will need to be replaced.

Was your car not running silly boost?

These turbos on the VRS seem to be a bit weak. I had a failure back in April but, as my car was unmodded, got Skoda to fork out for a new turbo on good will. Sorry to hear about your misfortune but i'm sure a few guys here can help you without you having to pay silly money.
