Clean my Green Filter or get a Piper Cross?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As the title says im running a Green Panel Filter on my Fabia VRS. Its done about 15,000 Miles and looking a bit black and battered. SO im considering the option of getting a piper cross panel filter even though its a few more quid.

Can i open this up for opinions on the following.

Is it worth getting some cleaner/oil and giving my current filter a clean.

Should i just buy a new green filter?

Has anyone changed from green to piper cross and noticed a difference?

Cheers to all in advance,

Ben

excuse my ignorance but I thought the aftermarket ones were more expensive because you can clean them? I bought a K&N cleaner for my old AEM from Halfords for about a tenner and it lasts quite a long time, in fact its still going. I shall be sticking with the cheap OEM filters on the Fabia though unless I choose to mod it

hi. i bought a pipercross in the first place coz i wouldn't need to buy any cleaners for it(just use soapy water, rinse then dy). but if you already got a green panel filter i would buy the cleaner and clean it. its up to you.

Why bother chucking away a perfectly serviceable filter and buy a new one. The whole point of these aftermarket filters is you can re-use them. I'm sure the cleaner and oil is much less than a new Pipercross filter. I think you can re-use the cleaning stuff again.

I'm sure I have read that the cotton/oil filters are much better in filtering and performance than foam ones. So my advice is to reuse the Green filter, read and follow the instructions carefully and don't over-oil the filter.
