Maxidot & RNS510 Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recentlly purchased a 2007 Octavia VRS and my first point of interest is to upgrade the interior electronics by retrofitting both a Maxidot display and a RNS510 Sat Nav unit. From browsing through numerous posts on the subject, I'm looking at purchasing the Maxidot from Skodateile.cz for about £240 and the RNS510 (Refurb/Stolen??) off Ebay for about £500-£550.

Firstly, I would like to know if this is a reasonable price to expect to pay and secondly, in what order should I purchase/install the goods? Should I wait until I have both items before installation or can the Maxidot/RNS510 be installed first with the other item being installed at a later date?

Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated.

Ta

Yes you can do either first, makes no difference at all. Can't comment on prices for the RNS510 but the price for the Maxidot is about right.

Brilliant - Thanks for the quick reply.

If you aren't doing both at the same time then RNS510 first IMHO.

I could do both but it would be at a stretch. I think i'd rather get one up and running first. Whilst on the subject of the Columbus units, can these be purchased and installed directly from the Skoda dealer network without being fleeced for the costs? I haven't purchased much from ebay before so i'm a bit hesitant to send £500 to a geezer in Lithuania. Are there any reliable sellers that can be recommended?

Thanks again.

To buy an RNS510 from Skoda you're looking at around £1200.

One of my wife's brothers lives in the Czech Republic and the price out there translated pretty similar.

I got mine from a guy in eastern Europe and it has been perfect, much chepaer than the £1500+vat my friend was quoted by a local dealer!

I'm doing this - bought a Columbus on ebay from seller 'naviandbmwparts'. My first ever ebay purchase - no problems at all - as far as I can tell its a genuine refurb unit - as new condition and came with code card.

I have a Maxidot on the way from Skodateile (paid 252 Euro plus postage).

Check out this thread for feedback on various ebay sellers (although other members have recently posted that their units from seller 'Grielka' have broken seals and may not be legit).

Cheers Mercurio, I'll keep an eye out for units from 'naviandbmwparts'.

I used them too, and recently upgraded to the 2664 software with no problems - item came with radio code card, not just a sticky label stuck to the unit

They have had a Skoda unit for sale recently when I looked, as well as some VW, but the VW would give you the wrong name and the wrong display colours ie red/blue instead of green. If you want to look original you'll need a Skoda unit.

I had a look at his ebay shop and he's got a Skoda unit available but the price seems a bit high at the moment. But then again sometimes it's best to pay more money if the sellers comes recommended.

I noticed the VW unts and having recently sold a Golf I actually prefer the blue lighting, but i want a Skoda unit to keep it original and so it matches the dash.

Perhaps we need a columbus group buy :D
