Shall I go for 2.0 Fsi Sport ?!!

Featured Replies

Hello

Test drove an Octavia 2.0 fsi Sport today - first drive in an Octavia and I was very impressed - build quality and ride was very good (especially compared to my Ibiza)

The engine was nice - not particularly fast (again compared to my Ibiza!) but responsive and soooooooo quiet after driving diesels for years - also nice sound when revved a bit...

i am happy with the price and the car was in good nick and right mileage etc..

I'd prefer a 2.0 Tdi but can't afford the extra £1k + that they cost,

Just a bit worried that 2.0 petrol engines will become obsolute - will it be difficult to move on in the future ?

thanks

The sport is obselete and the 2.0 petrol has now been replaced with the 1.8TSI.

If you just want to drive it and you're happy with the performance of the 2.0 engine then that's fine, but if you're wanting it to hold it's value then I'd suggest looking at other models.

hmm - that not positive !

although I still think the Sport is a desirable model...

And the 1.8 tsi is still mucho £££..

the 2.0 fsi as reported in a what car report said that if you want a mix of power and good fuel economy then the 2.0 fsi was the one..

here is a review for you:

if you do a search of this forum you should find the one that says about having the best mix of economy and power.

Problem IMHO is that the FSI technology has been pulled back from with only parts of it being used due to various issues, hence the new ones are all TSI engines.

I also notice you're looking at a remap, and while you can do this to the N/A engine, it won't get you much of a gain.

Personally I'd avoid the 2.0 for the reasons i've given in this post, but as I said before if you're happy with it you're the one owning and driving it.

You say you can't afford the 2.0TDI, what about a 1.9tdi and a remap when funds permit as that would give you a good shove of power, quite good economy and I very much doubt it would hold it's value less well than the petrol car.

yep I agree with that - problem is I really want a Sport model and they didn't do that in the 1.9 :(

Just a thought, but why a sport model exactly? The same 2.0FSi engine is also available in Ambient and Elegance trim and the sports suspension was an option on those models, and they are better specced overall. As above too, don't bother with a remap, on a none turbo car you'll pay a huge sum of money for about 10bhp gain.

i am being a tart !

I like the alloys, little boot spoiler and different front bumper/grill !

you are right about the re-map - not worth it :(

i've not heard of a "sport" but if we are talking about vRS, they are only available (new) in 2L petrol or 2L Derv, no 1.8. Its the FSI for the petrol.

there is a sport model - 17" alloys, different front bumper, boot spoiler

came in 2.0 fsi or 2.0 tdi flavour...

the vRS wasnt available at release of the mk2 so they added a body kit and some nicer wheels to a 2.0

its actually a nice looking car..I love the boot spoiler on them, it looks classy and understated

If you are happy with the car buy it.

All cars become obsolete in time with face lift changes, new / revised engines and new models. The 2.0 tdi pd has been superseded with the common rail engine.

Many Elegance owners like myself picked the 17" alloy upgrade with Sports suspension so handling would be the same as the sport. Hence why they didnt sell many, and they're fairly rare.

If the wheels are making your choice, then look for an Elegance with the pegasus alloys ;)

thanks mate :)

Will keep looking - they are pretty rare though !

I also really like the little boot spoiler and the front bumper...

The bumper's the same as the standard to me. Rear bumper is like the VRS on the sport though.

You could always add a spoiler, but I prefer the VRS spoiler myself.

@APD i can see why the OP wants a sport over a standard thus why i went for one. Its not got nick me im a boy racer written all over it (all this is my opinion and not an excuse for flame war). It doesnt have the cr@p black plastic taxi bumpers and has a touch of class look to it was actually a red sport i saw that made me want a skoda, but whilst i waited for mine to be delivered i saw tons of taxi's about with the cr@p bumpers and i did wonder if i had made a bad mistake.

I think the sports kit gives it a subtle nice look, i guess when you see one (clean and shiney) you will see the appeal, just suprised they didnt give the sport a choice of engines too (turbo/non turbo)

Front bumper is different to standard and different to vrs, ill try and get a picture up

Just under three years ago I spent many miles (10,000+) alternating between an Octavia 2.0TDi elegance estate and an Audi A3 2.0 FSi sport over a six month period.

They both had the same six speed box, and my observations were that the TDi was much more suited to motorway cruising at sensible speeds, with good mid range pull for lane changing/overtaking and was surprisingly nippy around town, However the FSi was fantastic for pure pedal to the metal power, but the price in fuel economy was really high compared to the TDi when driven in a similar manner.

The diesel was definitely noiser in a less pleasing way, but at motorway speeds this wasn't an issue.

After about six months I ended up with the Audi 2.0 FSi all the time, and it was only then that I noticed that I kept getting pulled away from on the motorway by Audi A3 2.0TDi's.

Obviously these were two quite different cars, but the engines are essentially the same as in the octavia range now, but if i had to make the choice now after this experience I would definitley go for the 2.0 TDi engine, as despite the rattle on start up and the slight increase in noise, in reality it is marginally more powerful than the FSi (according to some stats I've seen) and the clincher is the mid range torque which means the pick up in virtually any gear makes it so much more responsive in all traffic situations. There is also the economy bonus as well.

I'm a great believer in chosing a car by the powertrain up, and then seeing what other items come into play, because no matter how a car looks or what toys are in it, you still have to drive it at the end of the day.

That being said I am currently driving a 1.4 16v Fabia at the moment due to having no no claims bonus because of a decade of company insurance LOL

That's my tuppence worth anyhow

great post - thanks

kind of confirmed my thoughts...

I test drove a sport 6 months before I ordered the vRS as I was all set to buy one, but tbh, it left me cold as it was just like a standard Octy, which is my point, the sports suspension was available on other trim levels, as was the engine.

Justa, until very recently there was 2.0 tdi Sport in the classified forum.

I've just tried to look it up again & the pics have gone, may still be for sale though?

It was very nice looking, great wheels & just enough bling for a tart like you:thumbup:
