Air recirculation button faulty ?

Featured Replies

I got in the car this morning after finishing work, started the engine and put the hot/cold dial on hot,

I didn't put the fans on because I had just started the engine, put it in reverse and a couple of seconds later the recirculation button lit up

I pressed it a couple of times and it wouldn't go off !

When the engine had warmed up I put the fan on number 1 and it was a bit noisier than usual like when its in reverse the recirculation comes on and you can hear it.

Anyways, got home and had to reverse in to a lane end to turn car round,

When I had it in reverse the light went off for a couple of seconds then came back on again.

I switched the engine off and keys out of ignition thinking it might reset ?

I put the keys in the ignition so the lights came on the dash but didn't start the engine and the light was still on !

I pressed it twice and it went off then came back on after a few seconds

Does anyone know what might be wrong ?

Faulty switch ?

Thanks

Richard

In my travels around the Briskoda archives, I encountered a similar post to yours, I understand that the car is doiing this to make sure you aren't breathing in exhaust fumes as you reverse, you may be right and the switch could be faulty. But I'd investigate this possibility further first if it was me. Hope to help:thumbup:

Hi its designed to do just what it is doing. when you select reverse and the fan is on, the recirc system is automaticaly sellected. Its so you dont allow fumes to enter the cabin when in reverse .

I know about it kicking in when reverse is selected, what I mean is its on constantly and wont switch off !

When I select reverse the light goes off for a couple of seconds then comes back on and then if I press the button a couple of times the light goes off but comes back on a few seconds later !

Even when the light goes out it doesnt switch off !

Sounds like a trip to the dealer

Sounds like your flap motors are playing up. A reset with VAG-COM may be enough, otherwise you may need them replacing...

Well the recirculation doesn't seem to work at all now !

The button lights up but there is no increased fan speed, when I put it in reverse the light flashes on and still no increase in the fan speed !

Looks like a trip to the dealer at some point

Thanks for the help people

i have the same on my polo, i got it vag-com at ed38 last weekned and it said intermittant problem with the motor (to turn the flaps from recirc or fresh air) reset the code and it dissapeared untill last night. now it has come back worse witht it doing as you said. i think it's the motor which has got stuck or generally on its way out.

My recirculation also playing up...

When you press it on, it will light up orange (and you can hear the air noise deepen in the passenger footwell - so all is good), and then moments later, the RC button flashes, and then goes off.

Pressing it again mostly doesn't bring it back on. It will refuse to light up again after this.

I've booked it into the dealers for warrenty,

Will it be a case of a faulty motor/flap?

I don't have access to VagCom, so can it be reset by disconnecting the car battery for an hour?

I dont think it can be re-set by disconnecting the battery, I think the way it is reset by calibrating its full range of movement:

If you do get access to VCDS the following is the procedure:

08 Heater/A.C

04 Basic settings

Channel 000

001

002

When it goes into a channel let it run until the numbers stop moving. The numbers mean the flap is moving from one stop to the other. Should at the end read 0. Then clear any fault codes.

Well I got a friend with Vagcom to do the above test(s),

the recirculating valve is not operating as it should, it won't calibrate to Zero, so I guess the motor is faulty in some way.

It's got 4 or so faults on that recirc valve. so let's just hope the Skoda Dealer will fix it when I take it in for warrenty work

Skoda Dealer replaced the re-ciculation motor flapper today, seems like it's all working properly now.

thanks guys

How much did that set you back if you dont mind me asking ?

It seems mine has fixed its self overnight just like it broke overnight !

The light only flashes on the button now and doesnt stay on even though the fan speed has increased

Service is due soon so will get it looked at then :D

I don't know the cost - it was covered by the Skoda used car warrenty.

It couldn't have taken them that long to fit, because I dropped the car off at 1pm, and by 5pm it had been repaired along with a host of other things that it was in for.

On mine when it was broken, it would (sometimes) light up after you pressed the button, but after a few mins it would flash, then turn off completely.

It wouldn't come back on after that even when you pressed the button.

You'd have to restart the engine to get it to light up again, but then you'd be back to the above situation again.

There is a proceedure using VagCom which you can teach the motor flap the open and shut positions, but we tried this on my car, and it was showing that the motor was indeed faulty,

Thats exactly what mine is doing
