disposal of IT equipment

Featured Replies

does anyone have a recommended company for the proper disposal of IT equipment? after a recent coming together of levy bodies and an office move we've got a number of bits of kit we need to dispose of, at the moment it's mostly hard disks and CDs but we'll have some PCs fairly soon as older stuff gets retired/replaced

:)

Can't recommend a company but make sure they are going to do secure erasure of all the disks and they they have some liability should something happen.

we were thinking destruction of the disks rather than erasure, onsite would be good so we can see (enjoy) the disks getting crushed/shredded :D

Well there is this -

But this is better -

6 inch nail through the platters should do it lol

Strip the drives and sell the rest on?

If your company is charity minded ,you could look for voluntary organisations ( eg residents associations etc) that need kit ( after removal of the HDD ,of course )

Yep , there's plenty of companies that will recycle PCs for use in Africa or other locations - they would be a good idea.

If you want to sell them I know someone who deals in ex-corporate computers who may be interested.

Either way I'd want to know that the hard drives are being properly wiped or would lump-hammer them into oblivion myself.

Nope, you can still get data off a hard disk that has been shot , albeit you'd have to want to make a bit of effort.

Run Dukes Boot and Nuke (bootable CD) to destroy the data then if you had anything sensitive on it crush the disks.
