A4 Allroad Vs Octy Scout

Featured Replies

Interesting article about the Audi A4 Allroad. Surprised they chose the Octavia Scout (£10,000 cheaper) as its main rival rather than the volvo or subaru alternatives...

Rival: Octavia Scout

Skoda’s rugged estate is cut from the same hard-wearing cloth as the Audi.

It offers four-wheel drive, a raised ride height and protective body mouldings.

And while it can’t match the A4 Allroad’s classy feel, it represents much better value, with a starting price of £20,500 for the 2.0-litre TDI.

I've got to say, I prefer the Scout over the new A4 Allroad...

The audi just doesn;t look right to me, that said the new A4 has taken a while to grow on me...

10 grand more - 90 litres less in the boot.

And Clarkson's right about Audi drivers.

how can anyone coment when they,ve never driven both cars?

I don't need to drive the Audi to know it costs more and has a smaller boot.

but have you felt the power of a 3.0 tdi? and all the refinements that go with an audi?:rotz:

LOL, I'm sure it's very nice and handy if you have something to compensate for :)

Me, I'm happy with the 2 litre, in fact I would be even happier with a 1.6 (CR of course) ;)

i take take it that you haven,t driven the audi then? because you drive a skoda, money must be an issue for you, when you take the step up in life, why dont you take an audi for a test drive...................

he he

I hate to point out the obvious but you also drive a skoda , we have to put up with getting smart comments from non skoda drivers without getting from skoda drivers as well :rotz:it's not a case off how well of you are just how sensible you are , 30 grand or 20 grand  a bit of a no brainer unless of course you are poor like the rest of us.:D

I have owned and driven several Audis including quattro estates and a 4x4 and Scout Octavia.

I genuinely rate the Octavia has highly as the A4 and its not just about value for money.

If I compare the new A4 allroad in 2.0Tdi 170 ps form against the Octavia Scout 140ps, for me it boils down to:-

A4: Badge kudos, debatable looks, some marginally better trim and perceived quality, 30ps more but similar acceleration due to extra weight. Less standard equipment.

Scout: Better ride, insignificant handling difference, debatable looks, comfort at least as good. Noisier engine.

So, ignoring money in this equation, the Scout is 100% a true competitor.

The Scout cannot compete against the A4 full stop. If you look at the whole point of a Scout or A4 allroad, the A4 will cope with off-roading in a much better way than the Scout ever will due to having a Torsen differential rather than poxy Haldex.

They're two different cars and for the job they are meant to do, the A4 will be better, simple.

Fair point but how many actually make it off road ,not that many i think , but not disputing that the audi ain't a good car.;)

my point is that the a4 allroad is a genuinely better car than an octavia scout. yes i drive an octavia because i carn,t afford an audi, i would if i could, we all aspire to an audi because a skoda is the nearest alternative at a far more reasonable price. if money was not an issue we would all be driving audi,s and anyone who thinks other wise is deluding themselves.

Yeh the allroad is a good car but the delusional bit sorry but that ain't the case mate at least not for me can't speak for the rest .

I've had several Audis and "downgraded" to a Skoda. Still got my S2 and 90 quattro though

Disagree with 85% of what you say !

You can and can't compare a £5000 watch with a £1000 watch - both are great at telling the time and in some cases have similar mechanisms and all the same features. But the £5k will have a 'better' name and maybe the edge on the aesthetics of the design and a bit more weight.

So there you have it - more bling and extra weight buy the Audi.

I also prefer the non-Haldex Audi 4x4 systems but in all the Alps driving I've done there's very little in it on equal tyres. Have a look at some of the European Youtube videos of the Scout off roading and in deep snow for a laugh.

one benefit of the haldex is, when you dont need the rear axle, your not driving = better fuel economy

must say though, If i had the money id love an a4 3.0TDi quattro
