Towbar for VRS

Featured Replies

Done searches etc. i know your not meant to put one on due to no tow wieght being advised etc....

However, i need one so im looking to fit one regardless....

I would be grateful if someone who has fitted one could tell me what sort you have, im trying to have as little cut out as possible.

Many thanks :)

It's not the no tow weight advised so much as the fact that the VRS wasn't type approved for a towbar ....so you may have insurance issues if you do fit one

Plus, if the traffic police or VOSA patrols are having a slow day, they can actually pull you due to your car not being roadworthy. There was a story about it actually happening floating around on here a while back... I think the only way you could do it legally would be to get an SVA.

Otherwise, PM me your reg, and I'll make sure I keep well away from you if we should ever be sharing the same bit of road, as your insurance will be void and wouldn't pay out if you had an accident, the way loss adjusters are these days...

sva?

mmmmm.....Interesting read, surly the car will only become Illegal when towing, what about a bike rack that sits on a tow bar, that's not towing.

Single Vehicle Approval. Basically, by putting a towbar on a vehicle that doesn't have a towing weight on the V5 breaches its Type Approval, meaning an SVA is required before it can be issued with a valid MoT, AIUI...

my fabia vrs has a towing weight on the tax book, i wrote one one on it when i exported it to northern ireland

I suspect that's a bit dodge...

Pikey V5 ftw.

Has anybody on here got a SVA for a towbar?

Would you then have to declare this as a Mod to the insurace company?

all i will say is look into construction and use regs, apparently all answers are there which is why someone close to me has recently had a succesfull claim while pulling a trailer in a fabia vrs,i don't know and tbh i don't care how but he fought a refusal of his claim and won in court by using these regs good luck(if i'm honest i think if you want to pull a trailer buy somthing that can pull lots rather than a little hatch but maybe thats just me)

I have had a Brink Detachable Towbar on my vRS for years. It looks neat. I tow a powerboat with it that is bigger than the car in physical size. Been pulled over before during towing for other issues but never a comment on the fact I was towing.

Can post a picture if your interested, it does cut out a bit of rear fender but not visible unless you are under the car; when aesthetics may be the least of your problems by then!

jb1000 - I doubt the po-po's would know if a certain vehicle is type-approved for a tow-bar or not. This proves nothing.
