furbi vrs mpg

Featured Replies

Interesting thread this one, just a question, when the fuel light comes on the dash how much fuel is left in the tank do you think ?, the dash display says enough to cover 65 miles, the lowest I've dared let it go to is 20 miles, has anyone let it go lower than this ?

Cheers

Alan

The light comes on when the reserve is left, so aprox 7.5 litres.

This should give you 65-80 miles if your carefull, but i would look to refill by 50 if possible.

I have come very close to running empty before now, and had 5 miles left on the predicted milage. That was an anxious 3 mile drive to the petrol station.

I've had mine on 0 miles before now... what a pant-wettingly exciting trip to Sainsburys forecourt that was!

Talking of mpg I blew my Toyo T1Rs on the front of my car from 2.2 bar to 2.5 bar a week or so ago and have had an immediate MPG improvement of around 5 or 6%, back in to mid 50's now on 20 mile B-road "fun drives" - and they're wearing much more evenly as well. Check your tyre pressures people - and don't take what the fuel flap says as gospel ;)

That stands to reason, an over inflated tyre will ride on the centre part of the tyre, meaning less rubber on the road, less traction, BUT less grip.

Just like off road vehicles have under inflated tyres for cross country terrain to maximise the amount of rubber on the ground, increasing grip.

Personally, i'll be leaving mine at the suggested PSI as i obviously get good mpg, and my grip is far more important to me with our british climate and weather.

It's not over inflated. The whole width of the tyre is in contact with the road. I've ran it on track days at that pressure and had no grip problems. The tyre is wearing perfectly evenly rather than more so at the shoulders, as it was before. I would never compromise grip or safety for economy. This is the pressure that suits my driving style the best in terms of grip and handling. The economy boost is a bonus ;)

I've just had a touch over 500 miles from a tank. I usaully get about 55mpg on a steady long drive, though managed 62mpg according to the computer on a long run the other day- thanks to being stuck behind "Sunday drivers" on windy roads!

I'll get aout 45mpg if I'm putting my toe down a bit. Best I've managed from a tank is over 600 miles (from being brimmed to the top).

Very interesting figures for mpg.

I get about 450 miles from a tank on average.

Playing with my foot down : way less than 40mpg

Town: 45 - 50mpg

Motorway/Urban daily work commute of 60 miles: 62mpg when behaving at 60/65 but if I really drive like a granny I can get 70mpg+. And that includes the long hills.

Is my trip computer a fibber ?

Had my car just over a month. First job was to service it and of the 5 fill ups I have recorded, 50mpg worst and 54mpg best. I am waiting on this current tank though as we drove 323 miles and the trip was Reading 60 even though it is optimistic.

My normal drive is either 19 miles to work or 6.5. Both are mainly A roads with a fair bit of 30. Well chuffed really as my EP3 would just get 300 miles from a £45 tank so 200 more is great

Just a quick one for those doubters out there:

DSC00297.jpg

As you can see, the trip is reading 400+ miles (it was reset at the last fill) and the fuel needle is a tiny smidgen left of the half full mark.

The over all MPG is clear to read on the left.

This half tank did involve a fair bit of town driving yesterday as i tried to find my way around Reading town centre, so MPG could have been a bit higher.

I know there will be a few people who will think/say that i could have stuck £10 in the tank to get it back up to half, but i haven't. i only visit the forecourt if i NEED fuel, and i ALWAYS fill it to the brim so i don't have to keep going back so often.

/\ Davey is yours chipped?

I've managed to squeeze 59.8 litres into my vRS when i have run it really low. I imagine i had less than a litre of fuel left in the tank, so i think 60 litres is a fair guesstimate on the max fill.

If i see less than 400 miles from the first half of the tank, i'm gutted.

Normally the needle won't move from full before i've done 230 miles.

Hello daveyonthemove,

How do manage to get nearly 60 litres of diesel into a Fabia VRS fuel tank that the Fabia manual states, holds approx 45 litre's of fuel ???

Have you got an expansion tank or such to put this extra 15 litres/ 3 gallons approx. ????

When I have fuelled-up an empty/nearly fuel tank, the maximum fuel I could get in, with the fuel almost spilling out of fuel filler, was 41 litres.

Yes, i have a remap from Rapid Remap

It does hold 45 litres.

It also has a reserve of 7.5 litres.

So the filler neck must hold somewhere in the region of 7-8 litres?

I don't have any mods or add ons, just a standard fuel system.

The best i can do to prove that i can get more than 45 litres in the tank, is to provide this screen shot of my points from Shell.

i've underlined a couple from the first page i selected, that clearly shows more than 45 litres being used.

I only have access to my Fabia, and nobody else uses my fuel card.

Filled up this morning. 400 miles to 38litres.

Davey, did you pick the economy chip? What are you running?

Yes its an economy remap, running aprox 160-165 bhp

Just read your project, looking good mate. What torque is with that, im very tempted to follow suit!

Good one to tell the insurance company, a little quicker but better on fuel

Quite like the sound of it, will check out your build up thread now

I don't have any PUB figures, but i'm sure Mike could give you a good estimate.

He doesn't do rolling road before and afters, just a test drive to make sure your happy before you hand over any cash. Give him a ring, and mention my thread on here, he may offer a Briskoda discount ;)

I will say that it is very smooth and strong, and out of the three different remaps i've had over the years (including a well respected tuner on this forum) i would go back to Mike without any doubt.

Did it make you insurance premium go up by much and how much was the remap if you dont mind me asking

Thanks

I tend to get around 400 miles to a tank in the Ibiza, more if I try but I get bored too easily...I don't vent the tank but I generally don't start to panic when the fuel light comes on or the trip computer tells me I've got 0 miles left either.

maybe I'm driving it like a **** but don't see how people see 50+mpg on a "fun" drive, I tend to see high 40's or into the 50's from a fairly sensible run to work which is mostly motorway :o

I think it depends entirely on quality of the road, number of roundabouts, and "sharp" corners etc. Maybe my "fun drive" is less demanding on brakes and engine than your "fun drive" :)

Mine was reading 50mpg from a 4-6th gear run along the Alton road full of nice bends and long straights. Although the mpg is out on the car it self so I guess its more like mid to high fourties. I dont go mad and rev the nuts off it, the turbo is good enough to allow me to have fun
