furbi vrs mpg

Featured Replies

Guys, where are these crazy figures coming from?! I can't fit any more than 38-40 litres into my tank - I vented it a couple of times the other day when filling it up but it only seemed to let me put in a tiny bit more fuel before venting was required again and it just takes too long to keep taking the nozzle out, vent, put nozzle back in, fuel, repeat again and again. I'm getting 400-410 miles to a full tank pretty much as standard, which means I'm getting around 44-45mpg on average across the board.

I've managed to squeeze 59.8 litres into my vRS when i have run it really low. I imagine i had less than a litre of fuel left in the tank, so i think 60 litres is a fair guesstimate on the max fill.

If i see less than 400 miles from the first half of the tank, i'm gutted.

Normally the needle won't move from full before i've done 230 miles.

Big Mikey - I'm with you:thumbup:

400-410 miles per tankful 'brim to brim' but no 'venting'. Standard car driven in varying styles. Computer currently showing 44.6 mpg(average) over 2456 miles.

My son has used the car a couple of times and he (somehow) can get the average consumption up to 54+ mpg on his urban commute!!

I've seen 56mpg once!!

Wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to have a Passat Tdi Sport (110 bhp) which would show an average of 62 mpg on occasion - all down to an 'optimistic' computer!! :P

Alan

Info in the sig.

It's kinda hilly round here which kills the economy.

Spent a week in Suffolk last year, The drive down was 402miles and managed on a half tank (Vented)

refilled on quarter tank @ 579miles, And because it like a billiard table down there the car used hardly any fuel the rest of the week, Coming home we stopped at Scotch Corner to refill.

Ive never got more then £42 in the car!?!

Glad to see im not the only one pulling the 400mark to a normal tank of fuel . . . I was beginning to suspect there was something wrong! However thinking about it - my last tank of fuel was all town driving, 90% of my driving is!

I returned 55mpg averaging 55-60mph on an A road with some nasty bends yesterday both to and from my destination. I used a mixture of 3rd, 5th and 6th gears. Its not that difficult.

The most I have seen was on a 60 mile round trip averaging 58.8mpg on the M54@70mph

Maybe the computer isnt that accurate though?

your doin well for a tank that only holds 45L

I'm with Big Mickey too - Get roughly 400 per tank -40 litres - so 40 mpg.

Even with 60 litres like daveyonthemove this would only give me 600 miles ---- How can you get 800!?!?!?

I'm not doubting you, I want to know to help my wallet!!!!!!!!

I've never seen (or claimed to have) 800 miles from a tank. the most i get is 650-670 miles, so i'm assuming the last half of the tank is shallower than the top half, meaning it holds less.

I'm amazed people are strugling to see more than 400 from a full tank.

I can only assume my 'economy' remap has had a bigger improvement than i first thought.

*Edit*

I also use a green panel filter, PD160 intake and millers DS4. All of these might add up to better mpg combined with the remap.

Worst MPG 42

Best MPG 53

Week in week out 50k of commuting between Nottingham and Leicester 45 MPG.

MPG figures always calculated brim to brim.I ignore the numbers on the dash.

This is with an ASZ engine,no remap, new Garrett turbo fitted 15k ago.Paper element air filter replaced every 13k.

I wonder if the MAF is on the way out.My MPG seems really poor compared to so many others.

I just checked the manual, and you are correct.

The tank has a capacity of 45 litres.

The reserve is 7.5 litres.

I also vent, so the filler neck could well hold an extra 7 litres???

Either way, i have just checked through some previous records on economy and found one dated 15th aug where i put 52.9 litres in.

Maybe i've got more patience at the pumps to squeeze the extra drops in

I keep detailed records of fuel purchases and mileage. Based on those, my 07 vRS has averaged 47.00 mpg over 12398 miles. On the other hand my car's average fuel consumption readout paints a far more optimistic figure. Reducing the readout figures by 25% tallies more closely with real world consumption.

17mpg when having fun :)

I always get around 400miles from a tank. Thats from fill up to the light coming on.

60 is too lethargic for me

So I do

70mph on A's or MWays = 60mpg (actually a little optomistic, but cruising and watching ahead it will get this side of 60mpg).

On a heavy right foot (any speeds!) I expect 40-45mpg

30-40 = 35-40+mpg

oh and I forgot to mention - all pretty much flat where I drive, its like the great plains !

Its gone down since chaning to Kumho's also ? I got 70-80mpg for quite considerable time on the Bridgestones originally, at one point when coasting on a long distance journey back from (or to?) Cornwall although I was slipstreaming some trucks as well for reduced wind drag :o)

You should put 40 litres in and see what that gives you!

Mine's completely standard and I generally fill up at the supermarket and chuck in two to three measures of DS4 also. I drive it carefully for the most part, only booting it now and then when I get the urge and I never drive it like a ****** - around 400 miles is what I'm getting pretty much as standard. Until I changed the air filter around 1000 miles ago I was regularly getting between 350-380 miles from a tankful and was pretty pleased at the difference a new filter seemed to make.

You can't measure your MPG accuratly if you don't fill to the brim, thats why i always squeeze as much as i can in.

Makes sense though if i'm getting an extra 200 miles from an extra £20 worth...

Had mine for 32k miles - standard car and best I got was 50 on a run up to Aberdeen (OBC said 76 !). General average was mid 40s and worst - town driving in winter was about 35.

Don't really believe anyone who claims that they regularly get much more than about 400 miles from a tankfull.

For anyone that cares, you can look at what I've been averaging since (almost) new at the following link

Details: Skoda - Fabia - vRS

Basically 45 mpg over 30k, got 50 mpg going up to Scotland and back last week and that included a few hundred miles of proper driving. Very impressed with that!

Why not try Venting the tank and seeing for yourself?

Its not hard to do (you just put more fuel in) and you will get more miles. Simple.

It looks like everyone is getting an average of 100 miles per 10 litres?

So if i'm squeezing aprox 60 litres into mine, its easy to see why i'm getting 600+ miles.

Also, do you have Cruise control? If so, do you use it?

Do you drive at 70 or more or motorways or dual carriageways?

Do you have an aftermarket air filter for better air flow? Or a PD160 intake?

Do you have a remap? if so, is it for power or economy?

Do you drive the same roads over the same distance?

Do you use additives?

There are so many variables to consider that its impossible for everyones car to acheive the exact same performance or economy.

But its easier to call someone else a liar because you haven't tried putting more fuel in (which obviously gets you further) or drive in the same style i do.

OK , when you said you were gutted if you got less than 400 from half a tank, i assumed you would get 800 from the whole tank!

Sadly not, But i'll give it a go!

OK I've not had mine long but I've never got LESS than 400+ miles to a tankfull. Usually around 460.

Looking at his profile, He drives a Fabia II. Estate. Not really a good comparison

No I was talking about my experience in the vRS. It was a standard off the shelf car with maximum use of cruise control at speeds between 65 and 80 (indicated) on the M90.

As an aside, the Fabia II 1.9TDi driven in the same way / speeds with the cruise on does seem about 5 mpg better on juice even this early (4k miles).

When I fill up, I never go beyond the first automatic click off of the fuel pump. The most I recall filling up when the yellow light came on was about 40 litres. Ok it's never going to be a deadly accurate measure of how much you've achieved on one tankfull but averaged over 32,000 miles, I think my 45 mpg is fairly accurate and it ties in with lots of others in this thread.

I also thought it was hazardous to really brim the tank ?

Is it really possible to get 60 litres in safely?

i live in MK..... the home of roundabout :) so there is a lot of stopping and then accelerating to 70Mph.

standard round MK used to get about 35-40MPG

Hybrid i get 40MPG

Hybrid running Millers sport4 45MPG

drive to leeds to see the gf at uni a lot.

standard doing 60-70MPH used to see 55-60MPG

Hybrid doing 60-70MPH 60-65MPG

Hyrbid with Millers 60-70MPG 67MPG

last tank i drove from scotland with a full car and managed 575 from one tank. :) but that was a lot of 50MPh and 40MPH runs as well

I've never had a drop leak from my filler cap, and as diesel has a much higher flashpoint than petrol (the temp that it starts to give off vapour) you're very unlikely to have any issues of expansion even in the heat of summer. Petrol is more of an issue on expansion.

Give it a go next time you fill up and let us know how far you get (and how much fuel you get in)
