Never thought I'd buy a Skoda!

Featured Replies

Hello to all Briskoda members. Like I said, "Never thought I'd buy a Skoda" but I have! Bought a new Octavia SE 1.9TDi three weeks ago and, so far, like it very much.

If it's OK, I'd like to take advantage of experienced Skoda owners and ask a couple of questions, please. This is the first diesel I've owned and I find it a bit noisy on tick-over - do they quieten down after a few thousand miles or do they get worse? I managed 52.5 mpg for the first 500 miles, driving fairly carefully - is that likely to improve? Any recommendations for good service in Sussex, please?

Your question about the diesel idling might be best answered in the Octy II forum.

I can recommend Caffyns in Tonbridge, I've had a couple of services there with no fuss but they are a main dealer so are expensive, you might be better off with a local independent unless you are keen to keep Main Dealer stamps in the booklet.

Hello mate and welcome to Briskoda. Pretty sure yours is a PD engine so unfortunately it will always sound noisy and rattly. :)

Welcome along.

The older desgin PD diesels (like yours and mine) are a bit noisy when cold, particularly at idle and low revs, but they quieten down as they warm up.

Mine's now done 25k miles and doesn't seem to have got appreciably quieter, but then it has never missed a beat either so I guess the noise is nothing to worry about. More to do with keeping the cars down to budget by skimping on sound-deadening rather than anything more sinister.

Enjoy the car!

Many thanks to you all for your warm welcome! By the way, you're right - it is a 'PD'.
