Alloy Wheel Pics

This old thread could give you a few ideas :o

A word of warning to people looking at buying wheels off ebay;

A mate of mine came very close to having a horrible accident due to "cheap" wheels he bought on ebay. Many of those sold are prone to buckling and cracking because of the crap material used and the fact that they are not crack tested or x-rayed after build. They are full of blow holes and are generally also more prone to galvanic corrosion.

If you are srious about a particular set of wheels, ask the seller what standards they are made to....

Ask if they are TUV, VIA, JWL or ISO approved......

I'll bet you any money that if its a dodgy dealer you won't get an answer

Oh and the tyres which many of them have fitted are worse than polo mints and you will fill your pants the first time you go around a corner in the wet!

Most OEM wheels are made by the likes of BBS, Speedline, OZ etc - all reputable companies. You pays your money and takes your choice but do remember, its not only your neck on the line,......

That's a very good point you've raised there. Those sorts of deals are usually knock-off replica wheels made very cheaply, coupled with ditchfinders from the Far East - that's why the deals are so cheap at first glance.

They look great on a Mk 5/6 GTi but not on anything else.

The ones I was looking at would be available without tyres as well - I emailed and got a response of £325.

As far as dodgy replicas go, I've no idea, but there must be an awful lot of cars running on the likes of replica RS4 etc wheels looking at some of the threads on here.

Has anyone else had problems of cracking/defects ?

I still think these would suit an Octavia

or possibly even these

first pic is the new wheel for the updated VRS. For the Skoda though, it comes in 7.5x18 ET51 (same as the zeniths).

VW has the same design wheel for the Passat (as in a link above), these however come in 8.0x18 ET44. This size suits much better!!

(happen to have the same size on mine. BBS VZ033, similar design as the CH).

OK, £325 for four wheels.........thats like £80 per wheel............

Tell me how good the quality will be on an £80 wheel? To give you some idea, I paid over £800 for four Speedlines over four years ago. They were quality wheels not some knock off replica made in China from recycled beer cans!!

There are SO many dodgy wheels out there - perhaps not dangerous but they will go egg shaped at the first pothole - I know because I've seen it for myself.

Before you stick £325 worth of wheels on your £18K car, ask the question "please could you tell me which approvals these wheels come with".......

Mate, what are saying, they're tidy, diamond cut or in anthracite, even better!

Agreed! Skoda have ruined the FL mk2 with those manky wheels. They look like they came from Halfords.....

My point exactly.

Identical to my car, the wheels show marks really badly!

By marks do you mean kerbing, or just general dirt ?

I always love the B19's myself.
