06 OCTI VRS 22,000mls Coil & Cat gone HELP!

Featured Replies

I have a octavia VRS petrol 2006 with 22,000mls.

3 weeks ago the engine management light came on and it began misfiring, 50 miles later and the engine cut out due to coil pack fuse and coil burning out.

AA called; result cylinder 1 coil burnt out, replaced coil & fuse and car was fine.

200 miles later the light comes on again and begins to loose power and sounds rough, fault code reads, P0420 CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICENCY BELOW TRESHOLD BANK 1

AA called and taken to the dealer for further checks

Anyone tell me on an 06 car with 22,000mls why this should happen? There was a tinking ticking noise from the CAT prior to the coil going etc..

I am not happy!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum by the way, on your first post! Sorry it can't be under better circumstances...

This is a Mk2 Octy I'm presuming?

This is what Ross-Tech says about that error code above, if you've not already been on the Wiki:

Hi

Thanks for the welcome

Yep a Mrk 2 in blue petrol

On the first service they said it had been programed wrong from factory and remapped the ECU. The car was great after that.

Now a year after warranty ended it states service required but we just had it done and now all these probs, I am seriously not happy

programmed wrong from the factory  sounds a bit funny thats very strange maybe there was an ecu problem which they found maybe it was over fueling and thats led to the early dimise of the cat:confused:

i would be asking alot of questions about what was programmed wrong because if it was the above then i would want a replacement as it would have fecked it very quickly as proven 22k miles :(

It's possible that 50 miles of driving on 3 cylinders could have allowed unburnt fuel into the cat which will not do it any good at all. The reprogramming is likely to have been a service update, which would have been done to 100s of VRSs, irrelevant to your problem IMO.

They do tell you not to run with the engine management light on for just that reason.

Phone Skoda UK and get them involved and ask if they will contribute as a good will gesture?

My thoughts exactly.

Thanks everyone

I have phoned Skoda today, apparently this car has allot of History??????? News to me

They wont tell me what it is or give me and reports because of data protection, they have told me to ask the dealer.

The dealer has said there is allot of history and when they find the problem they will look at good will etc.. depending on what it is.

The car was brought from Skoda Westend garage BROXBURN WEST LOTHIAN.

8000mls

freedom to information act buddy is your friend they cannot withhold info about the car.

ring and ask for all data off car as it is ow yours you have a right to know:thumbup:

Complete and utter ballcocks!!!

The Freedom of Information Act only applies to government bodies, not corporate entities or individuals! So, for example, Westallc has no right (under the FIA or otherwise) to see data on my home computer without a search warrant, or to see the history of my car.

The Data Protection Acts mean that they can not release any "personal information" (such as name and address of previous owners) other than to registered entities (which the OP won't be, since the dealer has to register them as a recipient of personal info) or for law enforcement purposes. What they can do is disclose a sanitised history of what work was carried out when and at what mileage.

DVLA will send you ownership history of your car on payment of a small fee.

Since the car is only just out of warranty I would expect all repairs to be archived in the Skoda warranty system and they should give you this. Other manufacturers normally release this information - it doesn't contain personal details, just date of repair and what was done.
