Cruise Control - A Danger ????

Featured Replies

In one of the Sunday papers :-

Case in France of a Renault Vel Satis with a stuck cruise contol at 120 mph. It also said there had been several other cases involving this car and as many as one in ten other makes of car has had problems. Don't remember any posts about problems of this nature with Skodas.

Heh , a likely story.

"But officer , I had to do 120. My cruise control was stuck on" :)

At the end of the article it said that engine vibration and/or radio interference ( with the electronics ) could be reasons.

So many things disengage the cruise with mine...brake, clutch, off button :o

Even if the cruise had stuck on the Renault, dipping the clutch would have slowed him up, or if auto sticking it in neutral

You can allways stop, either dip the clutch or select neutral, easy enough.

Beat ya :P

The manual specifically says not to just knock it into neutral without using the clutch as it will more than likely blow up the engine as it over-revs trying to maintain speed.

Still , if it has all gone pearshaped and is stuck at 120mph that might be the best option

Don't get that much chance to use it but always thought........................

Set CC at 70mph, put some nice music on the CD Player, put on the heated Leather Seat, turn up the heating, all sitting comfortable.... and SLEEP

Roll onto hard shoulder and turn off the ignition.

Despite what the book says, the ECU is much cleverer than that.

The revs hover for a moment, then rise about 300 before dropping back to idle, no doubt logging an interesting error code at the same time :D

Destruction tester? Moi? ;)

The guy claiming the stuck cruise, had called the police saying he had a problem.

Also later in the article, there have been reports of dealers having to fix other Vel satis with the same problem, & the dealer asking owners to keep quiet ?

Nah that was probably the two Vel Satis's they sold...lol

Yes I read this a while back in the papers, although some seem to only havejust got round to it. Renault sayed that if the just turned off the ignition it would stop. However this car refused to do that as it has a card rather than a key!

If it happened in a Skoda, just turning a key would turn it off.

Have they sold that many then??

If I recall correctly, didnt Ford have a similar problem with the Explorer, whereby it would take off uncontrolled leading to quite of few crashing?

I don't Ford even knows how many problems it has had worldwide with the explorer! The imfamous tyre trouble was just one such case

Aw, c'mon - it's a Renault. Doesn't surprise me at all....

Having driven a Vel Satis, I'm amazed that any of the electronics work.

It was a great car, but built by chimps.
