Price for Pads and discs all around

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

My Octy was advised at last service that it will need new pads and discs all around to pass the mot

(that was about 8 months ago, and I noticed that the pads are looking a little low now....)

They are a decent garage near me, and have always helped out with diagnostics etc, as they work on all our works vans too.

So, just a quickie, new pads and discs all around, how much do you reckon?

Standard parts, love my car the way it is......

Cheers

Steve

(will let you all know how much when its been in....)

oooooooopppppppsssss me bad

As i understand it, they are on their minimum thickness when measured, also quite a lip to the outside of the disc.......

why would it need new ****s and pads for mot??? as its only breaking force measured so long as the discs are there and the pad has something on it will pass

with them saying that i would double check them to make sure they need changing:thumbup:

why did it get rid of discs lol

brake discs can fail a mot if they are excessively corroded or worn below the minimum specified clearance.Brake pads do have to be very thin to fail though!

i replaced my pads & discs all round at the begining of this year for about £130,i did however fit them myself & got the parts using my trade account. i would guess a garage would charge about 2-3 hours labour to fit them. a rough guess would be £250-£300 for a garage to supply & fit pads & discs all round(maybe a bit more, depending on labour rates etc):)

Last week I had new front discs and pads during service at a Skoda garage, for £129 inc labour and vat.

Just been quoted £271.40 inc vat by my local dealer to supply and fit discs (£77ea) and pads (£55). Will be getting discs from Jorily not sure which pads to get though.

answerd thankyou

please tell me where this is in the mot test book???

will do,will have a look in our vosa inspection manual when im in work tomorow!:) do you want paragraph & page numbers?! on a different note...wiper motors working a treat m8!:)

an mot ensures the car is roadworthy, if the discs and pads are worn its not safe, so not roadworthy! simples

please tell me where this is in the mot test book???

vosa m.o.t inspection manual section 3.5 (mechanical brake components) parts f & h quote "a brake lining or pad insecure or less than 1.5mm thick at any point" & "a brake disc or drum insecure, cracked or excessively scored, pitted or worn" ive been a mechanic for 18 years, a civilian mot tester for 8 years & a ministry of defence equipment examiner/mechanic for the last 11 years:thumbup: brakes are a saftey item so i personally dont think its wrong if a garage mentions on a mot that your brakes are worn!:) if you follow the vosa directive they have to be in fairly bad condtion to fail a mot, thats what the advisory part of the test is for(to make people aware that their car has passed BUT will need attention at a later date!) not all mechanics are out there to screw somebody over!

Just ordered Febi discs and pads from Jorily, £105.99 delivered.

Works car was about £280 all round IIRC.

cool im not an mot tester was just asking to see if it was tested as i had in my head it wasnt:O my bad:rotz:

you have alot of experience  that must make you old and wise:P:D

cheers for that info mikey vrs. seeing as you seem to know what you are talking about, isnt it less likely for discs to be warped/faulty and much more likely that the pads just need changing? Reason i ask is i often hear "new discs and pads" from people having services.....reason some mechanics can screw people over is that they are banking joe public (me included) not having knowledge about cars. Its the same with roofers, plumbers, sparks, accountanats, in fact anyone who stands to make money from doing a job for cash. Thats not to say all out to screw you and makes good tradesmen worth their weight in gold....if you know a good one you stick with em.

Hi Guys (and Girls)

Right, had the MOT and a service done this week, failed on a broken spring, so they did the work and then passed it.

The brakes were advised on the MOT that they are worn (rear discs) but have passed the MOT

Also advised about a worn bush, but not enough play in it to fail it

So, for a full service, new spring (buggered if I know which one), and a nice shiny new MOT certificate (with 1 big oily fingerprint on it....) it cost a total of............

£301.86

I have had the car for 7 years now (from new) and its done 85k

Steve

my fabia has done 40k and needs new discs. Are Jorily any good? they seem to know what they are talking about or would I be better off getting some off ebay?

Our Discs and Pads are German made by Febi Bilstein

did mine myself over two weekends, local supplier of pads and discs, came in at £187.

Genuine discs and pads all round are £333 (without discount) as i have just priced this up for someone.

Front Discs - 8N0615301A £144.90

Front Pads - 8N0698151A £55.20

Rear Discs - 8N0615601B £95

Rear Pads - 1J0698451C £37.41

Std Skoda front disc's (BN0615301A) are £63 each, and front pads (1J0698151M) are £48.

I changed mine last week, and the total with VAT came to £200.10.

The original disc's and pads I took off my 53 reg vrs (which has done 20K) were hardly worn at all, but the inner face on both disc's were very badly rusted and the inner pads had started to crack.

Blimey! Skoda really are extracting the urine on those prices!! You can get better parts for less money elsewhere. My OE Brembo discs were cheaper than those!

They must make so much money selling aftermarket parts. They bent me over the other day when I paid £20 for a plastic breather tube! Must have cost all of 12p to make in China.

Discs and Pads Front and rear (Febi bilstein) OEM £155-00 plus £15-00 delivery TOTAL = £170-00

Discs and Pads Front and rear (Original Skoda) £275-00 plus £15-00 delivery TOTAL = £290-00
