Loose, rattly engine cover? Try some of these...

52p each from a Skoda dealership. 6 in total on a PD170. More pliable and better, more durable design than the old grommets.

New part on the left, old one on the right (broken)...

Thanks! You're a god send:)

I was going to try ordering them tomorow. My engine cover is loose for allmost 1 year now :)

Daft question; how does a loose engine cover normally make itself known?

I have a slightly irritating vibration at lower revs, say 1500rpm give or take a bit. It sounds like something plastic is vibrating about a bit, it doesn't sound metallic.

I suppose I could nail this down (not literally!) by removing the engine cover and seeing if the noise goes away, how easy is this to do?

Just pull it up and off. The noise you describe could well be around the engine cover or airbox.

I'll try that this weekend, cheers. Is there any problem with not using the engine cover at all? Is it just cosmetic, or does it help keep dirt out in any way?

I'd say keep it on. I guess the benefits are it helps the engine warm up quicker, makes it very slightly quieter and keeps it clean.

Ahahahahaha! Well spotted that man.

My cover has been mullered for ages. I think i'll invest!

Cheers!

Been there done that - fits the PD 140 in the 4x4 as well!

Oh and the engine cover is also foam lined on ours for sound reduction - another reason to keep it!
