Suggestions for a run about.....

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Looking at maybe selling both our vRS's in the new year with the idea of getting one good car and then a smaller runabout. The mrs only works about 4 miles from home so we don't really need two diesels now. I'm currently swaying towards getting a new Octy vRS 2.0 FSI as our main car but can't think of many options for a nice little runabout.

The mrs isn't a fan of the new small city cars like the 107, Aygo, IQ, C1 etc.... so anything like that is out of the question. She does like the MG ZR which can be picked up pretty cheap these days, (She used to have a ZS so has always liked the MG's). She says she still wants something nippy as she's used to the vRS (Again hence the MG ZR). And doesn't want anything too old either.... Maybe 53/04/54 plate at most.

So, anyone got any ideas for anything else we could look into???

Budget would be around £3k

Cheers

Dave.

Oh, what about a 2.0 Fabia, fastest thing around isn't it...

Don't think she'd go for the ex-metro. :D She might go for the punto though.

On a slightly more serious note what about a proper mini, if it's just for a runabout to get to work and that they are great fun. Next to an Octavia they're like a roller skate. I've had a couple and they never failed to put a smile on my face.

Like this for example, though the extra lights seem to be missing.

Again bit too small for her liking.... There's a great looking little Aygo at a sales place down the road but she won't even entertain it.

Friend of mine is 6'4" and had less problems getting in a mini than he did with a fiesta.

Petrol Fabia is probably the best choice by the sound of it.

I would honestly go to a car auction if its just a run around you are after the car you will get for a grand would surprise you!!

Shame she doesn't like the Aygo they are a brill little car. What about SEAT Ibiza you might get a high mileage 1.9 TDI if she wants power otherwise there should be quite a few 1.4's and 1.2's for £3K.

How about a Mk4 Golf? An older Audi 80 or A4 diesel would be a great runabout too. Shame she doesnt like the Aygo, my wife has a 107 and it really is a good little car.

Same here. Shame she doesn;t know how to look after it.

Caught the wing recently, dented and scratched, inside like a skip, only ever washed by my son, I give up.:rotz:

I recently threatened to report her to the rozzers for driving around on 4 tyres on the legal limit. She's replaced 2 of them. Service overdue by 4k now too. Absolute waste of a good little car.

Wimmen.

If she's anything like my missus Davey, do as Simbo suggests, and get her a weekly bus pass. ;)

How about a Alfa 147?

Ya can get those quite cheap and if she wants something stylish and fun they are pretty decent?

Will it come with its own car electrician and tool kit to tighten up all the loose trim that will undoubtably fall off? ;)

Yes- if its a petrol- but the diesels come with a badge under the JTD that says CDTI:thumbup:

Thought they were a Fiat engine and that Fiat supplies vauxhall with their JTD's that they re-badge as CDTI?!

Not sure thought it was the other way around? and with Peugout involved as well some were?

Any way i think the easy why is saying that a diesel Alfa is reliable

The one they supply Vauxhall with is apparently excellent.

The 1.7 or1.9 I'm not quite sure.

It will be either the 1.3 or the 1.9- there the only ones ( I think) that that they share- the 2.4 5 pot they keep for them selves

If its only 4miles get her a pushbike ahaha!
