Previous Golf rear indicators

Featured Replies

Not the latest one, the Mk 5 is it?

Have you noticed how difficult it is to see the indicators flashing when the brake lights are on at the same time? Same on the Golf + too iirc.

The lenses are far too close to each other imo.

Just an observation I thought I'd share with you as I'm a bit bored.

Carry on .:P

Must admit i've noticed that a few times on either the Golf or the Passat can't remember which now.

Cheers

Dave.

Yup. That one too.

You'll notice all the more now, thanks to me! :P

I;ve wondered if the Fabia ones aren't too visible in direct sunlight, as some raging looney blasted his horn after nearly ramming me a few months ago when I WAS indicating to turn left into a garage in Chester, in plenty of time too.

He was that incensed with me, he pulled over, stepped out and hurled and screamed a load of expletives at me for not indicating...in his opinion.

I simply shouted back at him, "try specsavers"

Must have been the wrong time of the month for him flaming blind ******. :rotz:

Yes I have noticed that before. Very poor design really along with a few others I have noticed recently.

Saw it on an Audi estate in Germany. We though they weren't even indication to come off until we got close. They were so close to the brake lights they were just drowned out.

On a similar note, people sometimes don't see me indicating to turn left (front indicators). If it's a nice day, quite a few times I've had a 'look' or a rude hand gesture because they must think that I didn't indicate. Perhaps this is more common than we think. Not just VAG stuff as well.

As the indicators become more blended in with the body shape of the car, they seem to be harder to see. I know that the older designs were more crude, but a nice big piece of orange plastic blinking at you left no-one in any doubt.

Is this only a problem with smoked/clear lenses?

No. Lenses too close to each other, and too small imo, being drowned out by brake lights. Bloody dangerous imo.

'Smoked' lenses don't help though, granted.

Yep it annoys me too, shouldn't have been allowed to make them like that in my opinion. Think the Passat is similar to to Golf, also the reason why my boss didn't buy one, went BMW instead.

I followed a Passat this avvy, and the indicator is a fairly small circle in the middle of the much larger stop light. It really is so difficult to notice it flashing when the brake lights are on.

Wonder if VW have had any complaints about it?

Your boss actually decided against the VW specifically because of this?

Very observant. I thought I was alone on this one, and just being a boring old picky fart!

Yep seriously was thinking replacement passat but didn't like the idea of the indictors, and driving his kids around in it and get rear ended by someone who can't see them properly.

Ah, it's far from just me then.

Same issue with some of the latest Audis, and the joke narrow slits they use for rear indicator lenses.

I do think that a decent size clear lens that goes orange when the bulb is on is more obvious than an orange lens though.

...although if the orange film over the lamp has deteriorated, you're left with a flashing white/yellow light, which just adds further to the confusion...

You could say the same of a faded or broken orange lens.

My Fabia received a 'cautionary' on its MOT last year because of that. All the orange was peeling off the bulb.

Replaced them both with some bluey silvery things from Halfrauds. Quite attractive for a light bulb actually.
