Tips - The Klemheist

Featured Replies

I went to Ikea today and bought some 'Broder' shelving which has some 35mm square 2m long steel posts which slotted neatly between the front and rear passenger headrests. I covered the rear with one of the Ikea cardboard crockery holders to stop any scratching of the rear window, but couldn't do the same for the front, and it was very likely the posts would slide into the windscreen under braking, then I remembered the Klemheist.

The Klemheist

I usually have some poly rope in the car, but not today. Fortunately I did have my tow rope and managed to make a Klemheist loop back to the rear headrest. It's such a simple loop it doesn't look like it will do the job but that spiral, providing you tension it up, grips really well to anything long and thin.

PS I should probably have used two loops (if I'd had the rope) and kept the posts held away from the rear window too. There was slight risk of cracking the rear window.
