Dension Ipod interface via maxidot problems

Featured Replies

dilly- you're not alone. I have experienced all of those things as well. The whine is relatively quiet though on mine, so it's not bothering me too much at the moment. Once you get the hang of navigating the music "blind" (from the head unit), when the menu's gone awol, it's not too bad. Just when it locks up completely, that's a pain. As you say, the whole thing is a bit of a trial but I'm starting to look at the faults as "character" now. :)

I get the interference noise as well

It is worth checking your earths on the Skoda harness as they changed by one pin from the Stream to Stream MP3.

To update earlier posts, I'm pleased to say that my unit (GW300) is finally installed and working complete with fully detailed maxidot display. The mp3 I've got is usb driven and charges "on the go" and I'm well pleased. It didn't cost me a trip to a techie either which I thought it would. One question I have though is do I need to disconnect the player everytime or can I leave it in situ? It's accessible but hidden if you know what I mean. The next project is to ugrade the mp3 as it's only a 1gb unit holding a mere 166 songs...

After approximately 20 minutes the unit should shut down along with your MP3 player  Don't try unlocking the car to check though as it will wake up as soon as you unlock the car!

As a matter of interest, have you got a separate 3.5mm lead plugged into the Dension? Just wondering if that's a possible cause.

dill

nope, nothing but the ipod connected

I was thinking about swapping these pins around as well, but assuming Dension supply the same break-in harness for both Stream/Stream MP3, I guess they would be aware of this change, and would wire both pins as ground? (I notice both the old and new pin positions do have wires coming from them).

I'm not sure that's possible as one earth is for Aux-In and the other for the CDC. I don't have these interference issues (crystal clear) and the reason I mentioned it is because I have a Stream unit (non-MP3) so it seems a logical explanation.

anyone heard anything from dension about the maxidot problem?

Which Maxidot problem in particular?

I gave up and bought the VW MDI Interface. Went in first time, no coding, works a treat and displays track info on Maxidot.Ben was a complete star with regard to my issues and demonstrated that he's a great guy to trade with.

it disappearing from the display when using stream mp3 unit

It seems things aren't going 100% smoothly with the Dension interfaces at the moment.. mine is faultless (GW300 with Maxidot) and has been since day 1. There appears to be some problems with Columbus integration which they thought they'd fixed already, but the Maxidot versions I thought were OK.

soory to ask this question but i havent a clue what you are talking about . is this dension thing standard to the car ? just one of the options we are looking at is the bluetooth with the maxi dot so we can use the ipod is this what is causing the problems is it an aftermarket kit?? sorry for being dumb

yep, its an aftermarket adapter

thanks

Thanks for the kind words :)I need to clarify that the MDI is only of use to the users of touchscreen radios however. It will not work with Stream units. Only the Dension products can do that.

it disappearing from the display when using stream mp3 unit

Have you noticed a pattern to it happening? I've used 100s and 300s in my own car with Stream and Stream MP3 head units and not had any problems as I've mentioned before. If we can pin down what the problem is, then hopefully it can be sorted.

I've not had it happen to me with my Stream MP3 HU but I am getting a buzzing which is becoming annoying even though it's only background. Is the swapping the pins around an easy job ?

Yes, it's very easy to do. I'll take some pictures later, it's exactly the same as swapping pins around when upgrading from a Stream to Stream MP3.

no pattern to it. it just disappeared from the display and has only come back on once and then went again 2 days later

Yes, I'd like to have a go at swapping these pins around too as the buzzing/whining is driving me mad, especially on anything quiet or spoken-word.

I know about the pins and where they moved, but my question is do they need to be swapped on the OEM quadlock (attached to the car), or on the break-in loom supplied by Dension. If it can be done on the latter, it will save me quite a bit of pulling my dash apart!

There's no problem swapping them around on the Dension loom which will save you some hassle :)

I'm quite happy to have a look at it for you FOC if you'd like to bring it down.

Okay thanks, that's good news. I'll wait for your posting of photos/instructions anyway. Thing is, as I have the OEM AUX socket in the jumbo box, both ground pins are populated, so I guess I need to move the CD changer > AUX, and leave the AUX one hanging?
