Loose Engine Cover

Featured Replies

While changing my coolant bottle at the weekend I thought I'd check out a rattle that I have been hearing. It that the engine cover is a bit loose. One of the bolts that holds it in place has the thread badly worn. The nut appears to have been tightened on at an angle won't screw down properly. Am blaming the guy that did my coolant pump last year. I borrowed a die set and cleaned up the thread. The nut goes on smoothly without the cover on, but with the cover on its hidden in a recess and I have use a socket with extension bar and i just cannot get the nut on straight. Any suggestions? I'd leave it off altogether but would then have no oil cap. Thanks.

Try holding the nut in the socket with a piece of blu-tac.

Persistence and a new nut paid off. I cleaned up the bolt again got a new M6 nut and started it on by hand.

Glad to hear it. If it's the 1.4MPi (only Fabia I can think of with an engine cover that bolts on), then you need to make sure it's clipped down around the dipstick pipe as well!

Yup, spotted that alright, again whoever had it off last hadn't put it back on properly.
