Hello Everyone

Featured Replies

Just joined this community and thought I'd introduce myself: seems like an interesting place to have found.

I arrived here because I was searching Google for information about the engine management system on the Octavia. The warning light on mine has come on for the fifth time in twelve months, which is somewhat frustrating to say the least. I see other people seem to have the same problem: also note similar "fixes" have been tried on their cars, lambda probe, temperature sender, etc. What really gets to me is being told "There's no apparent fault" and being charged for resetting the system!

Anyway, now that I've found you guys I suspect I'll be visiting here from time to time. Happy motoring!

welcome!

Hi Usksider, wide variety of info in her for you ey!

Welcome.

Good to see you here. :D

Welcome, Usksider  I live not far away in Newport.

Was the dealer who charged you for "not finding any fault" located in Caldicot, by any chance?

How did you guess? Good old Thompson & Thompson, eh? Going to have to find an alternative dealershp!

Usksider,

Is your car a 2.0 Octavia by any chance?

Ross,

Profile says it is :)

Doesnt suprise me at all. There is a known problem with the 2.0, technical are aware of it. The engine management keeps flashing up emission realted faults such as air mass and lambda readings out of range etc.

If all the probes and MAF check out correctly (which you can check with VAS 5051 in the dealer) its caused by a faulty engine ECU. In the ECU there is an altitude sensor, this alters fueling for when the vehicle is at a different altitude (hence the clever name) as the air is thinner the fueling needs to be weakened off. What tends to be happening is this sensor goes faulty and keeps telling the ECU that the car is way above sea level, it weakens off the mixture which then brings on the management light.

Bad news is you'll need a new engine ECU, and if its not in warranty you need to find just under
