Price for Octavia II VRS facelift (Ireland)

Featured Replies

Getting a new car next year (Jan).

Up to now, had not considered the FL Octy VRS but having seen some pics, I am now very interested.

Will be visiting a few dealers soon to try negotiate a price. On autotrader, they are listing the price as 30.500 Euro. Anyone from Ireland here that knows gow much could this price be brought down to keep both the dealer and myself happy? Is 28K reasonable?

I looked into the Castlebar Skoda dealer a couple of weeks ago to chat about a New Fabia for my mother. Just the 1.2 Clasic. The salesman offered a €1.000 off the €15.000 list price straight away.

I would think €2.000 discount off a list price in the 30s should be a minimum in the current climat. Just an opinion mind. I was offered €4.000 off a SEAT Leon a few months ago.

In the end I went to England and bought there.

I bought my 08 rs cr from new last year for cash. List price was 29900 and I got it for €27k even :).

So I believe 3k euro should be possible.

I got €3,500 off my RS back in 06.

Thanks for that. I have a 2003 Corolla Luna which I hope to give as trade-in (get roughly 4500 Euro for it) so if they give me the Octy for 28K and 4500 for my present car, deal done. Trying to persuade brother in law who is changing cars in Jan to go for Octavia RS also and quite close to persuading him so two cars possibly from same dealer...

Visited a Skoda dealer today. They had a blue RS indoors. Very nice looking car. Personally, I thought it was a much nicer car than the outgoing VRS. The dealer I spoke to was very polite. 30.500 was the listed price. Gave me a good deal for Corolla 2003 but said nothing about bringing the price of Octy somewhat lower than listed. Told the guy that I was shopping and would give him a call. I think there's still space for haggling. The salesman told me not to go around waving the quote he gave me as dealers would have to beat his price by 100 Euro to get me buy from them. Told him that 100 euros would not be decisive for me.

BTW, the waiting period is 8 weeks and there's talk that they may bring the prices down (i.e. Audi brought them down by 10% and Skoda being part of the VW group may have to follow).

Disappointed with the lack of steering wheel MFD so would be nice to know if Skoda plan to introduce it for the RS? Bluetooth is apparently factory standard.

I emailed Skoda dealer asking about some extras. Here's what they quote:

- €400 for just the rear parking sensors

- Curtain airbags are €565.

- Full VRs Leather €667

Also, he was able toconfirm that:

Bluetooth is now standard on all VRs

Maxidot display is standard on the VRS.

Auto dimming rear view mirror / rain sensor wipers / auto lights are all standard on the VRS

I think it's excessive to be charged 400 Eu in recessionary times for parking sensors when they can be biought for 120 Euro. Has anyone in Ireland ordrered a 2010 Octavia RS FL and what do your dealers tell you in relation to above standards/extras

I also believe the Touch screen radio is €350.00 extra and the RS comes on 17" wheels and its extrea for 18" :-O

I thought Bolero was a touchscreen radio? It comes as standard in the FL RS

A friend in work is ordering one for the new year and he was telling me what the dealer was saying. You have to pay extra for the touch screen radio. So he is ordering the radio, sunroof, and full leather. The radio should be standard!

Is it not worth you buying a uk car bearing in mind the strong Euro.

They are going for under £17000.00 here which would save you at least 8000 Euros.

Firestormwest, have thought about it but the VRT etc is huge for a new car.

Have you done the sums ? I reckon you could save a couple of grand but you would have to buy a demo that is registered with a little bit of mileage on it. Have a look on autotrader.co.uk

ps - It would probably only be practical if you go for the diesel because of the lower VRT rate. Have a look on the Revenue website, there is a VRT calculator.

Thanks. Will do.

Edit, have checked autotrader.co.uk (ehttp://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200941343553083/sort/pricedesc/search-target/usedcars/make/skoda/model/octavia/body-type/hatchback/seller-type/trade_adverts/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/transmission/manual/maximum-age/up_to_1_year_old/postcode/cm72yw/page/1?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fcm72yw%2Fmake%2Fskoda%2Fmodel%2Foctavia%2Fbody-type%2Fhatchback%2Fseller-type%2Ftrade_adverts%2Fengine-size-cars%2F2l_to_2-5l%2Ftransmission%2Fmanual%2Fmaximum-age%2Fup_to_1_year_old%2Fsort%2Fpricedesc%2Fpage%2F1&anchor=advert200941343553083&logcode=pxample 1, Example 2 )and a second hand Skoda Octavia RS FL 2009 can be bought for some 17-18 K pounds (this equals 18-19 K Euros). On the Irish revenue calculator, I entered as follows (copy-paste):

MAKE: SKODA

MODEL: OCTAVIA 2.0

VERSION: TDI VRS 05DR / HATCHBACK / MANUAL / DIESEL /

CO2 EMISSIONS: 151

MILEAGE: 6000 MILES

DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION: OCTOBER 2009

OPEN MARKET SELLING PRICE: €26662

RATE OF TAX: 20%

VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX: (payable on enquiry date) €5332

My concern is that the web site calculator does not seem to have the most recent model listed. Could someone clarify if € 5332 VRT is the only expense one has to pay for bringing a car from UK to Ireland. Is there not a clause in UK regulations that cars not older than 6 months are subjected to some extra charge etc.

tbh looks like the parking sensors have come down in price from 2006 iirc it was about 450 euro back then. Also front & rear sensors were approx 900 euro.

Also bear in mind about a UK car, that the Irish basic spec was a lot better than the UK basic spec, so what you save in one hand you loose in the other. I think you really need to consider the Irish v UK spec when getting replies on here as a lot of guys are from the UK so there giving the UK spec.

PM me with which dealer you were dealing with & who.

Gave me a good deal for Corolla 2003 but said nothing about bringing the price of Octy somewhat lower than listed.

Normally price lower than listed is IF YOU DON'T have a trade in, you do so you won't get that.

You could always go in and see how much for a cash deal and weigh that up to what you would get for a private sale on Corolla

Hi GAFF. Thanks for the useful information/advice. I know for sure that Octavia II RS was lower spec in the UK than in Ireland. Have no idea if this has changed with the FL Octavia. Anyway with this aside, I did some maths and asked questions around (boards.ie) and found that for the car suggested above, I would pay some 5300 Euro in VRT and some 3500 VAT. I think it's not worth the effort.

You won't pay VAT on the car if its second hand, only VRT and cost of your flight over / ferry home. The difference in specification slipped by me.........sorry.

Placed an order for a new Octavia yesterday in Autostation in Sandyford. The price had gone down somewhat during the weekend (by 2K) and they had decided to include the Bolero and rear parking sensors in the price (both worth some 600-700 Euros). Went for a silver colour and added full leather interior, alarm and side curtains. This will be my first Škoda so cannot wait another two months to get the car.

Well done. What was the final price ? There are not many full leather Vrs's in Ireland, looking forward to seeing it.

I think for the outgoing version (up to 2009), full leather could not be ordered. Current price for Octavia RS FL is 28100. I traded in my 2003 Corolla (in perfect nick, first male driver!) and ended up adding 23900 which is about I thought I would be getting/paying. Will post pics as soon as it arrives (still waiting for a build date but was assured that it should arrive late December early Jan 2010)
