I like it!

Can't wait to get my copy of Windows 7 through now!

Phil

Thanks Phil, I sometimes think I am wasted on here:D (That can be taken in soooo many ways:rofl:)

Got 7 and XP on mine - 2.8G AMD /2Meg RAM .Seldom use XP -times I do use it it seems slow/sluggish.

Only problems in that my old laser writer wont run and my reported internet speed is down on XP .Office 2003 works OK, all my software instals/runs ok .Installs compared to XP are much improved -no hunting for programs on CD -just point at the CD ,sit back and it's installed .

pre-order for £50... its the first O/S ive actually ever bought

same here

Well hacked off tonight...

Currently on the lappy, because thanks to the ****ing incompetence of Southern Electric or whoever deals with the local power supply, we had a momentary power outage, whilst I was flashing the BIOS on the mainframe!

I managed to use the mobo's BIOS recovery routines, but it's completely b***ered up my mainframes Vista x64 OS, refused to boot point blank, just comes up with the dreaded BSOD!

No amount of System Restore or System Repair will cure it, so I've just spent the last hour re-partitioning the hard drive, reinstalling Vista x64 & sending it off for all of the updates, that's all 491,9Mb of it!

I've now got two copies of WV x64 installed, I can access all of the old files, but not the programs, I'm now just trying to download the graphics card drivers & LAN drivers as well, another 200Mb of updates!

I guess I can now try & delete Windows.old, if it'll let me!

So the consensus on Windows 7 is good? Are you running the Release Canditate version and if so i take it that will mean a reinstall when the Retail version comes out or can you upgrade from RC?

What do you think of it Roy ???

It's even faster than XP! I only have 1GB of RAM on the lappy, how does that figure?

So far, even though it doesn't support any drivers that came with the laptop, I fkn love it!

Is 7 an upgrade over vista or a total wipe and start again  as a wipe and start again I wont bother as vista is and always has been fine and very stable for me

Microsoft keep changing there mind, first stating that you couldnt upgrade because they weren't allowed to install Internet Explorer. Thats all changed, however I beleive they recommend a fresh install.

I did a fresh install as I had Vista for over a year, so it was time anyway, I find all the OS's need a spring clean after a year or so.

Maybe it's just me !!!

^ :+1:

I would agree. I always format every year and would definately do a fresh install if installing a whole new OS. Cant beat a good bit of Windows house keeping.

I have been running windows 7 release candidate for the last few months without any problems it is much faster and dosent hog all the system resourses like vista did.

I pre ordered mine months ago and its officially released this thursday (22nd october)

All the stores are now selling off the vista computers and laptops now, ready for 7.

Microsoft have finally got something right with windows 7 (mind you they had to didnt they)

A big improvement.

I think so that version of Vista is OEM so you'll probably have to buy a key item of system hardware as well like a HDD or Motherboard.

You may also have to pay for media/shipping costs from Microsoft (£10 prob)

Note the word UPGRADE.

If you buy this and then later on you need to reinstall it, you'd need to reinstall two OS's.

You can't buy the OEM versions just yet & whilst they have the advantage of being considerably cheaper, they also "die" with the motherboard unless you can convince MS otherwise, they also leave the installer as the supplier, which means no support if you have problems.

It maybe more expensive, but by buying the retail package, it gives you everything, including support & the ability to change your mobo should it pack up or if you upgrade it.

Won't some thing small like a DVD tray holder, or IDE lead or something count? Lots of the eBay ones like this just come with a plastic blanking plate etc.

Think it depends on the reseller, certainly in the past I've had to buy an important piece of hardware.

I'm not worried about support :)

And I can sweet-talk the MS activation people.

I'm just interested to know, if I buy that, will the voucher give me a full OEM copy of 7? It will then obviously render the Vista license dead, but I've got another one anyway!

If you want to upgrade extract copy the contents of your 7 DVD to a hard disk, pop into \sources and change the cversion.ini file.

all you need to do is change the minclient value to 6000.0 save the file, burn back to DVD or install from an external hard drive and kerpow ....sorted. upgrade away

Windows 7 ships next (this) thursday (22nd oct) and bloody royal mail are on strike from thursday for 2 days.

God knows when i will get it!!!!!
