Heated Washer Jets

Featured Replies

Ok in cold conditions - heated washer jets are supposed to activate at 5degC and below - has anyone actually felt how warm the water gets or not from these things? is it tepid warm - I never see any steam coming off the water that hits the screen - suspect its not getting heated that well personally - can anyone confirm or not?

Regards,

No such thing on the Fabia, they are only available on the continent, how do I know this ? Cause we paid

I didn't think these were available in the uk.

The washers jets are heated to prevent the jets freezing not to heat the washer fluid.

I had heated washer jets on my Polo nad to be frank, they are not worth bothering about, they still get blocked, so as far as a retro fit goes you'd only be wasting your money.

sure ok - I understand that..

Regards,

Mate of mine had a Mk2 Golf & he came up with the idea of coiling a length of copper cable around the washer hoses. When the ignition was switched on, a small current was passed thro' the cable, heating up the hoses!

Interestingly they are listed as being a feature of the Elegance model in the brochures but as others have said there was some discussion about this a while back and K or Ross said they were only available on the continent.

untill water gets on it then it wouldnt be as good :)

Slightly off the point. Washer jets on Fabias etc. provide a fan shaped spray - they cannot be unblocked with a pin etc. as I found to my cost on a Passat. It is essential to use good quality washer fluid additive and make sure that the filter is in place in the neck of the washer bottle when you fill up. Don't even think about using washing up liquid! I had to replace a 'jet' on the Passat (which is heated incidentally) at about

I had them on my Vectra. Bit of a waste of time, especially if it's very cold. They might mean that you can scoosh your windscreen, but that ain't much help if the screen wash freezes solid when it hits the windscreen :(

You are then in the situation of driving along, possibly at some speed, trying to peer through a sheet of ice    Not funny

About a hundred years ago, you used to be able to get a gadget that consisted of a double walled piece of pipe, which you placed in the heater hose line. The screen wash water was then passed through the center of the device, which warmed the water. It was a cheap mod, and very effective on one of my old Cavaliers.

Phil

They are standard on most Fords with heated front screens. I used to run a Mondeo V6 but it didn't stop the pipes freezing.

The heated front screen should be standard on every car though, if offered as an option I would have one every time.

That's why I started this thread in the first place - I had read it as a feature in my manual for my Elegance 1.9TDI. It was another selling point for the vehicle - to find out it may not be on the car - annoys me.

Yep. I agree entirely. They took some getting used to, as you got reflection from the grid of wires embedded in the glass, but on cold mornings they were brilliant!

A new screen was about

I think I have them on my nearly new fabia 2001 tdi elegance, I do know my Golf Gti golf mk2 has them and the water does steam as it hits the screen, and they have never frozen up on me.

Put enough washer fluid in the reservoir and it won't freeze.
