Updated VRS Spec

Featured Replies

Just noticed in the newly updated brochure on the SUK site that the VRS now has XDS.

My car was built 2 days ago and is currently on the train to Germany so the question is - will it or won't it have it fitted? How would I even be able to check and see?

Just checking what XDS actually is and if it will brew me a cuppa in the morning when I noticed this post from bandit1 on 29.9.9:-

Apparently there is a change to the ESP on cars being built from next week, it has been described as an ESP+ (EDX or something similar) which allows the car to be more agile in the corners & less obtrusive, but cannot be turned off, anyone heard anything?
Looks as if it is fitted then but no coffee included..........

Hmmm, reading another of his posts:-

Just Checked with Skoda UK.

"All vehicles built from Week 45 (Nov 2nd) will be equipped with XDS which applies drive to the wheel with most grip when cornering giving improved agility & steering feel"

As this is now week 42 then could both the Week 41 & Week 45 theories be wrong?

They look like my Quotes !

I could be wrong of course, BUT, Skoda UK quoted me the week 45, the dealer said he

thought it was next week, but this proved to be incorrect. Skoda were reading the week 45 (2nd November) from a press release.

HTH:thumbup:

Amazing

I rang SUK yesterday and asked whether the VRS had XDS

After a long wait they said they had talked to their tech boys and no they did not know anything about it and no the VRS will not have it:(

They also said I should not trust 'unofficial' sites like Briskoda.net

Is the only ref. to it, XDS, on page 26 of the new brochure?

EDIT Have found it on VRS spec page

Noticed it now costs £400 extra for Sprint Yellow

Found XDS in brochure

This new XDS system, from what I can find about it seems it's a software rather than mechanical system. If that is the case, do you think it likely pre week 45 cars could/would be upgraded with a software drop?

Having had my vrs built week 39 I'd be a tad bit gutted to of missed out on it.

Someone has mentioned you can find out what is has got fitted by the car coding - has your car arrived yet and would you know how to decode the numbering system?

Still waiting for the car to turn up. Hopefully it'll be here in the next couple of weeks. I did have info on decoding the options from the label in the boot, although I'm not sure if I've still got it.

I'll try my dealer to see if it can be upgraded easily if it's not fitted.

I take it that you're fluent in Czech?

Because to me it's utterly unintelligible! It might as well be in braille or semaphore!

As that's for the Yeti, does it have anything to do with a vRS?

Also there's a damned moving advert for some poxy Czech tyre company that gets in the way so reading it is nigh impossible.

Yes is predominately a Yeti article but latter parts talk about Superb, Octavia & Fabia plus Octavia & Fabia RS.

Regard tyre advert, new thing that's started to happen with Google translate, can be overcome by adding Babelfish (another translate download), then highlighting the text you wish to read, right clicking then select from options menu translate, brings up a separate translated box.

Hope that helps.

typo

I'm using Firefox & ABP & it's still there, somehow it's evading capture!

Still I'm not going back there so I'm not going to worry.

For Indiana,

"We noticed that you can not turn off the ESP. Why? Kozub: Yeti is the first Škodovkou to nedeaktivovatelné ESP. Can only turn off the anti-ASR. This is a new, even safer car and strategy group. So far, the button on the dashboard has disabled both ASR and ESP it returned back into play only when the driver in a crisis touched the brake pedal. This no longer exists, ESP with Yetiho just off. By the end of the year will get a new electronics and Octavia and Superb, Fabia next year, then the processes of modernization. World engines: This is also the sports model Octavia where Fabia RS? Kozub: For now, the future is being considered to install another sporty mode ESP, which would give drivers more freedom"

Mine is probably on the same transport as yours, so any updates appreciated!

I've just sms'd my car and said it's okay to flash its headlights at your car if it makes itself known.

Actually my car is quite shy so tell yours not to be too boisterous or giddy though:couple:

Just seen this on the Ibiza Cupra website

The Ibiza CUPRA is fitted with a 180PS 1.4 TSI twin-charger engine, the most powerful engine ever installed in an Ibiza car, an unrivalled 7-speed DSG gearbox and XDS, the new sporty self locking differential.

Perhaps that means its mechanical and not software driven?

Need to check exact build date on my Tdi expected 4 weeks. Although this will be my third VRS I am amazed that so many of us have cars on order & have no idea what spec we are getting until the car arrives. Skoda really needs to get its act together & better inform its customers. The brochure isn't worth the paper its printed on & the dealers don't have a clue:thumbdwn:

Not totally in agreement with you

I know the spec of mine, my dealer even ordered another car for me as I changed an option on it and SUK would not alter the first order.

I can understand the production schedule can be a bit fluid so many weeks ahead but it eventually firms up. This is no different with Ford when I had a new Focus ST 3 years ago.

Yes, the brochure is useless

I've ordered and know what to expect, the options list in the catalogue is misleading but don't think anyone on here would order a car if they did'nt know what they were getting. Its only the XDS thing, but that's a newly introduced extra.

Not sure I agree either,

SUK sent out a communication about XDS, it did not go into technical detail, but gave the outline & the week of build as week 45 (Nov 2nd onwards).

The brochure is only a guide, when I ordered, I sat down with the dealer & we ran through the spec options on the online ordering system. It will only let you confugure what is available.

Simples.

I'm with these three - I knew what I'd ordered and was quite happy with it but hoped I'd get the XDS as well when I found out it was being released.

I have to agree that the brochure could do with being a bit more 'techy' though. Then again, if it went into more detail about Maxidot then SUK wouldn't be able to supply enough of them as everyone would want it!

Sorry my earlier comment was not directed at anyone who has ordered a car, we all know what we ordered, I just meant that manufacturers should advise their customers about any changes in specification.

When I worked for Subaru details of any changes in the Impreza were passed onto us (the dealer) for onward transmission to customers who had outstanding orders. The online brochure lists XDS as standard specification not an option.

When I asked my dealer today to confirm my build date (42) I asked about XDS, he had no idea what it was "never heard of it, what does it do" & neither had his Sales Manager. When I pointed out it was in the brochure with effect from 1st October he said sorry, but we have no up to date brochures.

Doesn't inspire you with much confidence does it?

After a long discusion with Skoda it now seems that they have made a decision that vehicles will be built according to the specification as at the the date ot the order. Not the date of the build. So for those of us who were thinking they might get XDS, if you placed your order before it was announced it will not be on the car even if the build date is after the announcement date.

If that makes sense.

How will they manage that? Surely it involves a spec change to hardware (maybe?) and surely software so they will make the change on the production line and everything before the change wont have it and anything after, would?

XDS 'Extended Elektronische Differenzialsperre' is a pseudo LSD that is standard on the Mk.6 Golf GTI.

It is Electronic & not Mechanical & I'd guess it would be derived from the various stability sensors/programs already in place on the Octavia. Interestingly however it's not available on the Scirocco or the Golf GTD.
