Angel Tuning remap 'tweaking'

Featured Replies

As some of you might be aware, I had a PD150 turbo fitted to my car recently. My car is running an Angel Tuning remap, which was done with the old turbo fitted.

I have been advised to have the remap 'tweaked', however I have had an email from Angel Tuning, simply stating that if the car runs ok (which it really does :D), then there is no need to tweak the map  Im a bit confused by this, as in my simple mind, surely a tweak would be needed?

Also im unsure how Angel Tuning would be able to tweak it, without the use of a rolling road. Is it possible to tweak a map at the roadside?

If anyone can shed some more knowledge on this then I would appreciate it!

Cheers, Si.

Sounds like AT have given you a generic map, which is why they say it can't be tweaked. Best bet would be to get a decent map done on a RR, so it can tailored to your car......

exactly.

The 'tweak' might involve re-flashing with an existing map developed for the PD130 running the PD150 turbo, but certainly you wouldn't be able to do the 'little bit here, little bit there' tweaking that goes on when a custom maps done on an RR...

It's not as critical with a diesel than a petrol but it does need to get sorted out. You have the potential to move more air and so you can safely inject more fuel and produce more power.

BTW this whole generic/custom thing, it's rubbish. Every car needs to be reflashed every time a change is made anyway, so there's no problem making changes, reflashing and taking the car for a drive while logging the data. Rolling roads aren't the be all and end all of tuning a car and are certainly not required, as nice as they are to have.

:iagree: rolling roads seem a convenience rather than a necessity, besides is there any way to map these cars other than tweaking, flashing and then driving whilst logging (repeating as needed)? I was told the ECU wont allow you to map them live :thumbdwn:

You can use an emulator to change the contents of the memory whilst the vehicle is running.

However, it's only a few mins to flash a EDC15+ anyway and they'll flash countless times..

Kev

does that allow you to read/log data and adjust things accordingly whilst the car is moving?

I don't know, maybe the fella who did my remap was making excuses, but he reckoned he'd never seen a Fabia vRS with my ECU code before, and it took a good eight or ten RR runs and most of a full day before he was happy. Under those circumstances, you can't say that a generic 'flash and go' remap is going to be as good a match for any given car given that no two turbos, engine, or even ECUs (it seems) are the same.

Sure, you could go for a test-drive and do some data logging before making chances to the map instead of doing a dyno run, but I wouldn't call that a generic map in that case TBH...

Looks like I better get saving for a P-Torque remap then! Thats the easiest reputable place I can get to.

Will it do any damage in the mean time though if im still driving it?

wont do any damage (i'm at 85k with an angel remap!) , its just not optimized... a custom map should give more power

I have spoken to Angel Tuning today, they said they can 'adjust' the map on my car via roadtesting etc.

What do you guys reckon to this? The main factor of having it done with them is the price they have quoted as I am a returning customer, (it is a considerable difference between the two quotes). However the other part of me says go and take it hundreds of miles away to have it remapped by someone else, with equally good reputation, yet they have a rolling road.

From my experiences Angel Tuning have been very good, im just a bit reserved about having the map 'tweaked' at the roadside, and with no rolling road to prove any figures there and then!

Don't have any reservations about it being altered and road tested, there really is no problem with that if it's done properly.
