How old is the router and can anything connect to it wirelessly?

As said, can your laptops connect to other WPA2 routers without issue?

The router is just over a year old I have managed to borrow an old tp link router and set it up and the laptop connects :) and so my sister in laws laptop.

I have defaulted the Linksys router again to the factory settings but everything again works when connected by wire but nothing when you want to connect wirless but the wirless light is on to indicate all is well.

Does this indicate the Linksys router is not doing the wireless stuff as it should? i will follow the advice on the link you have given.

Thanks

How long is the warranty on it?

First check the antenna is attached.

After that get the latest firmware and update the router (over a wire) to that.

If it's out of warranty it could be worth cracking it open and checking connections are ok etc

Sounds to me like the wireless section has died and you might be better spending a bit of cash and getting a decent router, or switching to an ISP that gives you a router while you are with them.

Pretty sure it's at least 3yrs on the Linkys'

Bit strange that it's suddenly started doing this and if no other conditions have changed, I'd suspect a router failure.

Try a latest firmware upgrade and go from there...

if its 3 yrs warrenty then i am fed up as i threw the receipt away like always, on a more positive side the old tp link router is working fine on wireless i have again tried the linksys and it still refuses to connect wireless even the wii wont connect by wireless.

its ok on wire though - i have never had a router fail in such a way with the wireless failing but yet the adaptor card showing its connected, i suppose there is a first for everything.

dont know if to stick with the old tp link router for now but have found that maplin are doing a deal on a philips router for £19.99 from £39.99 but not sure about philips and their reputation for routers.

thanks again for all the help.

Remember as well, some routers prefer A1B2 rather than a1b2 etc.

Put your passkey in as caps, and bets are it'll work.

I've seen a linksys go in this way before.

Its a strange one though - gets you tearing your hair out.

My old one recently gave up the other way round as well. Cable connection knackered although it still connected wirelessly.

Ball ache either way really

I had a similar problem with my Linksys router, they then said I needed a receipt from over a year before... So I typed one out in Word with a bogus shop name and address on and they exchanged it, they only want proof of a purchase :D

Skillz

Yeah 'proof' shouldn't be too tricky ;)

I've not seen this on a Linksys, but had to have a Belkin swapped out with similar symptoms. They've got a lifetime warranty, which came in handy…

Steve

It's probably a cap, broken connection or something similar.

These things happen and i'd find a "proof" of purchase somewhere and exchange it.

Someone I know had intermittent problems like this with a router (can't remember the brand). The router used to run warm, and just to see they cut a hole in the top of the plastic case and installed a small fan hung off the DC power in, problems all went away!
