Retro fitting anchor points for roof bars

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have a 52 plate Fabia estate and want to fit roof bars/rack to carry bikes, but my car doesnt have the roof rack rails or the anchor points to fit roof bars onto. My question is can the anchor points/bars be retro fitted (cheaply)?. The easier option would be the hooky on bike racks on the tail gate, but they wont accommodate my kids bikes.

:rotz:

Also my passenger side electric window has become possessed and on the rare occasions I use it- it threatens to pack up with the window open. On the way up or down its like the buckaroo donkey juddering about. Any ideas?.

Thanks for your time.

I'm sure if you buy the bars as a kit then it includes the fixings.

Hi VRStu,

Thanks for your time.

I also imagine if I buy the kit it will include all the fittings, but the problem is the car doesnt have the anchor points!- bits for the fittings fit into. Halfrauds say I can buy their value range roofbar feet and it will go on, but the parts they specify for the Fabia are also the same for a vauxhall meriva and they do have the anchor points. Thus I was wondering if its possible to get the anchor points fitted? Thule dont make a bar/feet kit for it- looks like its gonna be the rack on the back!

I'm sure the rails can be retrofitted, but I can't find where I read this at the moment.

the Skoda Part is here -

It says there that it requires dealer fitting, but IIRC it is a question of cutting away the rubber to get to the mountings underneath to attach the rails.

I might be wrong, but it is worth a chat with your nearest dealer or independent VAG specialist to find out.

I'd steer clear of Halfrauds if I were you as they don't have enough specialist knowledge about retrofitting the rails

I have a 2003 Fabia Estate without roof rails.

I got a genuine roof rail kit cheap on eBay but haven't found time to fit it yet.

The kit comprises of the rails and different trim to replace the existing trim in the roof channels - it's different to allow bolts to go through to the underside of the roof and for spacing issues.

To retro-fit roof rails you need to remove the black plastic trim from the roof channels, insert the new, drop the headlining on the inside of the car then bolt the rails onto the top of the car.

ExAudiSi has retrofitted them and said "I have retrofitted the OEM longitudinal roof rails on SWMBO's Fabia Estate. You don't need to remove the headlining to fit them, but you do need to drop the sides, which included removing the A, B C pillar trims. Not the easiest job, but completed in one afternoon and definitely worthwhile as it finishes off the look of the estate (in my opinion anyway)"

The replies above are what I was referring too, not all things can come from Halfrauds sadly, the main dealers is often the place to start.

The above is correct - Even if you don't have roofbars the holes in the roof for them are still there - you just peel out the black trim in the roof to find them and new trim pieces come with the roof bar kit.
