You can retro fit cruise yourself - its easy, loads of info on here about it. Or your dealer can do it (for a price!)

You can retro Xenons but it aint cheap sadly! An aftermarket HID kit might be a cheaper alternative.

Xenons and HIDs are one and the same.

They all use the same technology to achieve the brighter, whiter light output.

After market kits are designed to be fitted to halogen systems and lack the auto levelling found on OE systems.

Some bulb failure systems kick up when a ballast/ignitor pack is strapped to the halogen loom.

Don't go mad with the colour output, a more blue tint (8,000K and above IMO) means less usable light on the road. OE systems are generally in the region of 5-6k for a good reason.

Excess dazzle is a common problem with after market xenon/HID kits but you should be OK as you have 'projector' or DE style light fittings which focus the light better than rear reflector type and Fresnel fittings.

I'm not even going to start on the legal ins and outs of aftermarket HIDs.

HiDs 4 U are popular: H7 Xenon HID Conversion Kits*::*HID Conversion Kits*::*HIDS4U Ltd - UK's Number 1 HID Conversion Kit Specialists

OE colour spec is 4300k I believe. There are a few people who can retrofit cruise for you (myself included).

Yep it should be all you need on the Vrs, I used a mk5 Golf stalk like the one in your post and fitted myself. You will need a M12 XZN 12-spline socket. If you want pm me you email address and I will send you over some instructions another kind member sent to me.

Not sure on the steering controller then you may have to check the part numbers.

My thread from a while back.

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/cruise-control-do-i-need-new-module/156310/

i have bought the part now lol. it states octavia mk2 so fingers crossed its the one. probs get some one to fit it incase my air bag goes off

The cruise stalk is the correct one, it is possible but unlikely you may need a different controller.

i thought the stalk was the controller, this is were i kick myself when i dont have a massive amount of understanding of cars, althought im trying to learn fast. should i buy that VAGCOM or let somebody else do it?

Just pay Ben to do it for you if as you say you don't know much about cars. To be honest I'd be careful - you don't want the thing going haywire and people like Ben have done many of these retrofits. Worth the money for the peace of mind.

100% agree. I had Lummox do it for me at unit18, and have had no problems with it. I understand that you can do A LOT of damage with VAG-COM if you don't know what you're doing.

BTW, fitting aftermarket HID kits is childs play, done 3 cars. The only tricky part is drilling the 20mm hole in the back of the lamp unit as you need a hole cutter, although I've seen some where the ballast unit fits inside the lamp unit so no cutting is required.

I would advise not getting the cheapest ones from Hong Kong. Some friends of mine have fitted them and had ballast problems.

Also, Shark is correct, OE HIDs are 4300k, and anything above 6000k will not be that bright.

For truth about after market HID kits read a report in: it's either Whatcar or Autocar or Autoexpress

Heard on grape vine simple bulb replace HIDs will be outlawed by new MOT tests coming in soon.

Car mag did tests and found after market HID although bright, did not give good beam angle due to lots of light scatter caused by standard headlight reflector not designed for these lamps.

My advise...stay well clear unless upgrading using Skoda xenon light assemblies.
