Change from 2.00 FSI to 1.8 TSI ?

Featured Replies

As my 06. 2.00 FSI elegance hatchback will require a new cam belt in March next year (4 years say the dealers) and a new set of tyres I am wondering if this may be the best time to change the car. The model I have been looking at is the Octavia Hatchback 1.8 TSI Elegance 5dr. Carquake are advertising this model on the internet at £13495. on the road.

Any advice on changing to the 1.8TSI or on the dealer would be welcome.

.The only small niggles I have with my existing car is the stream radio is not the version with a MP3 input

And the road noise from the back wheels. The tyres are still the original Dunlop’s.

Is the new Octavia any quieter?

But apart from that I have not had any problems with my existing car it has only done 25000 miles

Sounds like a decent move - the 1.8TSi is more powerful, while being more economical than your current 2.0FSi unit.

Tyre noise at the rear has been shown to be caused by incorrect alignment settings. Applying revised settings is likely to resolve that, although new tyres are likely to be required to fully resolve it, as the current ones will have worn according to the old settings, i.e. slightly unevenly.

As ever it comes down to your total cost to change, and whether you can justify that.

The 1.8tsi is a brill engine. Lightyears ahead of the 2.0 (non turbo) FSI unit. Also the bolereo head unit is great. Go for the swap, you won't be disappointed.

You absolutely would not be disappointed with the swap. The 1.8TSI is superior to the 2.0FSI in every way!!

Yes, it's a damn good engine!

just look at it..........after 5 weeks and nearly run in I can give the thumbs up to the 1.8TSI

Is this 'revised' on new builds?

Good question. I'm unsure at the moment, but I would certainly hope so!

Not heard any complaints from the FL crowd, as yet...

Although some 2.0 FSI drivers are fully convinced of their unit I think its an undisputed fact that the 1,8T and TSI are the superior motors.

what does TSI stand for? is it twin or turbo stratisfied injection?

It's the latter Paul. Confusingly, the 1.4 twincharger is also badged as a TSI. It's basically now the badge VAG are using for any make/model with some form of petrol forced induction fitted :)

Steve

Yes, just go for it.

After almost two years and 38kkm I'm still 100% satisfied with it.

TSI means the same as TFSI (turbo FSI), it is just the VAG change in designation. It could be a bit confusing as now turbo, compressor and twin-charger engines are marked the same way - as TSI engine.

I'm sure the new 1.8T is a nicer engine than the 2.0FSI , but if the car's only done 25k in 4 years it should be in excellent condition still and I'd struggle to justfiy the cost to change.

Any fuel savings are going to be vastly outweighed by the depreciation and it's not going to be that much different inside or out.

Thanks for the replies. I have only been offered £6000 so far in part ex for my car. I was also told that as there is fair delay in delivery the part ex price is likely to be lower again by the time a car is available.

I will keep looking to see if I can find a better deal
