Sump Plug

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm going to attempt an oil and filter change this week and cannot find any info on what size sump plug i need to buy to replace the old one.

There are several different versions I have seen in halfords but they do not say what sizes etc they are. I've never done any DIY servicing on my car and just want everything to go smoothly

Car is an mk1 vrs.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Rob

Go to the dealers they are only a couple of quid.

ok will do. Thanks guys much appreciated.

part number is N90813202 only £1.14

Or if you look in Halfords they have the little flippy catalogues on the shelf edge which tell you what number plug and washer kit you need for a Skoda Octavia VRS

I tend to get mine from the dealer when I buy a new oil filter

I thought the sump plugs were soft and sacrificial on these engines due to the aluminium sump.

How do the ECS plugs deal with that side of things?

Thats correct, they should be replaced, i d be slightly dubious about re-using, we ve had so many cars in with loose sump plugs from a damaged sump thread :thumbdwn:

That's the idea behind the aluminium ECS sump plug. The OE plug is steel, so harder than the aluminium sump material, and more likely to damage the threads in the sump. Which is a common problem caused by people getting carried away with a spanner!

So by switching to a softer (aluminium) plug, you're less likely to damage the sump (expensive), and more likely to damage the ally plug (cheap) if it does get overtightened.

You can re-use the ECS plug happily, just don't damage it.
