Whats your top speed (autobahn obviously)...

Featured Replies

Actually the fabias speedometer is totally inaccurate once above 100mph. Quickest I've had out of mine was 147 on sat nav GPS at this point though the speedo had been "off the clock" for ages car was not flat out at this point although I reckon the limiting factor is the gearbox and that it in reality will not go beyond 150 ish ............ oh what I would do for a 7 speed box !!!!! . I have had 192 out the RS4 though!!! ;):D

I agree with you on that, definately one of my favourite motors  just need a lottery win now to be able to afford one :( either that or wait a few years for them to depriciate, i might be able to afford one in about 10-15 years

approaching 130 in furby mk1 before I put it into limp mode. (15mph above "limited" speed thanks to Jabba)

Have not had current furby above about 110 I think, mainly because since the demise of furby mk1 I've been driving a lot more conscientously in general when on public roads. Different story when off the road though. ;)

My first TDi clocked easy 126mph and cruised quite comfortably at 115 where permitted but my vRS is not keen to pull beyond 120 yet with 14,500 miles on the clock. The vRS speedo is a pig to read when concentrating on even the near empty Autobahns I travel on occassionally so wonder just how accurate it is. Might put GPS as top toy on my Christmas list.

A friend ;) of mine tested the fabia today on a private test track and got a verified 126 by GPS flat out on a slight incline. Have to wait and see what it's like when my friend has it Jabba'd

All a bit slow after my Suzuki Hayabusa (Sold because of imminent death) but my old Octavia 110TDi would exceed an indicated 125, and more surprising the Furby 1.4 16V wound up to a horrific 128 and felt good for a bit more!

The more important points are the happy cruising speed, Octy around 100, Furby the same, despite the rev counter doing a stopwatch impression! :D

vRS coming in a week...10....9....8...7....6

Boyfriend drove a Furby vRS on a "private" road at 130 (best not do it to mine :D ) on the clock so dont know what that is in real numbers

42 MPH is my current clocked top speed ....well it was in a 30 MPH zone ...

I now have the 3 points on my licence and a

sorry barry but have seen Fab's comfortably exceed 130mph.... before being chipped.. chipped am pretty sure they will push 140...

I think we are in agreement here. Speed tests are carried out on the flat with mean each way runs to cancell out wind effects.

On the road we will often have a small 2-8mph tailwind without noticing it. In addition we have speedo error at up to 10% (optomistic) on the legal limit and often much more above 100mph.

No surprise then that standard vrs will indicate 130 easy, and chipped much more - hell mine did and does.

Still think the test condition figures I suggested are probably a closer reflection of the true top speed achievable.

If you look at other car sites you will see that most owners claim their cars are much faster faster than tests show. Even tests by the manufacturers themselves.

So we say vrs fabs do 140 and they say -"thats nothing, my mates saxo vtr does 145 easy." It doesent get us anywhere - just becomes a bit silly.

Funny that we did a speed test the other night in my Fabia, Rooboy and Lighning16v was there and we managed to get the old girl up to 135pmh (That was GPS speed, 140 indicated on the speedo), could of had maybe 1 or 2 mph more given a long enough run. This was all on a private road of course.

I have to say that I was shocked at how inaccurate the fabia's speedo is above 100mph.

My roadangel suggests that when the dial changes to go 90,110,130 it is actually still measuring in increments of 10.

I am comfortable that my car won't much exceed the 126 cliamed by Autocar, as the fastest i have seen (on the Roadangel) was 115 and Im not sure there was that much to give. Problem is, at that speed I am so terrified of getting caught and concentrating so hard on driving that I find it quite difficult to judge extraneous factors such as what revs are left and how much the car has left.

Cheers,

Ross.

156 - 2 up - still pulling - ran out of road :(

but the Zafira still got past though ....... :D

That's not the incident I was referring to. The Zafira incident was an example of good common sense on my part and of course he got past... I was in the middle lane and he was in the outside :finger:;)

Anyway, shouldn't you be at work???

We have computers at work these days don't ya know ;)

I had had an issue on warm days where my car would engage a limp like mode between 130mph and 140mph (GPS)...this was due to:

P1557 Positive deviation threshold exceeded

- heat build up which is quite common on the (MY04) PD130 Ibizas - others in portugal suffer the same thing.

With my FMIC on, I've had over 150mph on the GPS on very private roads - car gets to 130mph (relatively) very quickly, and was still pulling at the 150mph on the GPS, but with me happy that I wasn't going to get another P1557, and my private road approaching an end, I backed off.

GPS device in this case is an origin b2.
