Whats your top speed (autobahn obviously)...

Featured Replies

On the Autobahn/Your private track whats the top speed you've managed in your vRS, I noticed Ross's said 150mph on his sig so I assume he'll take the crown, but im interested in what people with standard furbys/remapped ones can do and whether there is any difference since the gearing isnt altered

Just to start the ball rolling, I haven't picked my Furby up yet, but my Zetec S TDCi with a tuning box and a K&N Filter managed 144 down my private test tracks hill (170.5 bhp) and 137 on the flat (10 above manufacturers claimed top speed) :D

Hmm, allowing for speedo error I would say 10 over is about right. My octy with the speedo saying 160MPH the GPS was reading 148MPH and still pulling more but I had to slow down for traffic. This was on Autobahn number 1 travelling towards Cologne.

Indicated 130 on a flat, before I had to slow down. Standard Fab RS.

off the clock with revo...

and about 140 without

Strewth, pass me my pipe slippers tartan rug and cup of cocoa.

Short burst of 110 is the fastest I've been so far. Always very wary of what's following me, even if it's a mere speck in the mirror.

Me too CJ, I'm obviously too much of a chicken to get to these speeds, I'm always in fear of my licence. You rarely get the chance to go that fast where I tend to travel. Short burst at 120 in the furby, then slowed down, thankfully so that I was only doing about 85 when a couple of of (probably Humberside's) finest pulled on to the motorway and overtook me giving me a big stare as they went past a few weeks ago  I'm always really speed aware, but it would be just my luck to get spotted the one time I went for it.

Maxed a 1.9dci Scenic in Belgium last year coming back from a very late finish at work at 4am on the autoroute, the most I could get out of it was 185kph.

140 on the dial for me.

Off the end, no way of varifying though i,e GPS.

I have a jabbad vrs which puts out around 180bhp.

This is loads more than standard but will probably add only around 10mph to top end. Mainly because wind resistance increases with the square of forward speed, masses of extra power needed for small increases in speed esp when you get above 120mph.

Small cars (like fabia) have comparatively poor aerodynamics and that just makes things worse.

Despite what others would love to believe I doubt that a modded fabia would get much beyond high 130's in test conditions - no wind, flat etc.

Still mega quick for what it is though.

Surely that would depend quite a bit on which mods were done?

Of which I believe Ross has..."a few"... :D

I agree, he quotes 200bhp which is 20 more than me. My mods amounted to around 40-50bhp worth. This gives me mega amounts more pick up and mid range but only around 10mph more speed. His extra 20 bhp will not even give him an extra 5mph beacuse of the point I made earlier, the extra power is resulting in increasingly deminishing returns the faster we go. The 20bhp will probably give Ross an extra 2-4 mph on top of mine.

Ross's car will be much faster than mine on the road - without doubt - however at the end of a three mile runway the terminal speed of both will be way closer than you might first guess.

What does the Fabia vRS clock go up to anyway ?

140mph(indicated),bottled it completely, octy was stilling pulling, car is more capable than me

12 or 23, depending on if you have the "24 hour" option set... ;)

sorry barry but have seen Fab's comfortably exceed 130mph.... before being chipped.. chipped am pretty sure they will push 140...

 They slow down okay aswell...normal observations seem to indicate a brake upgrade shortly after seat cleaner purchases mind.

I noticed you were indicating left when this picture was taken.... was you tuning into your street at this point?

So the concensus is on average 135, then 140-5 when jabba'd, does the car become unstable beyond a 100?

150mph as Martin said, but as soon as you hit 90, you engage "warp factor" :D

Scale doubles, so angle between 80 and 90 is the same as angle between 90 and 110. And it goes up like that in 20ies up to 150, as per pic below :)

In the Autocar long term test (the good one where they gave the 0-60 as 8.2 with a best of 7.2) the same car gave a true 126mph - I'm guessing an indicated 135 ?

..i was cutting through traffic, thats why u see the left signal, and yes, i took the picture myself at that speed

also this foto is quite old, i promise you to upload a foto soon with speed gauge over 270km/h

standard Fab vrs - had 140mph - I then bricked it - so slowed down

only had any car upto 140 on the open road that was in germany for about 14 miles in the 172 chasing a valver turbo and a mk1 v6 i was 3 up :) it was suprisingly boring at that speed

it will also depend on things like Torque and at what point the engine makes the torque. Remeber Ross has a hybrid turbo which will make more torque and it may also produce this torque at a different point in the rev range.
