Fitting Nokia Cark91 Kit

Featured Replies

Has anybody done this for themselves (Dean?). I have a new but not boxed kit off eBay with no instructions although I believe all the bits are there. I need to know which cable is which in the power connector and where to take a feed from. I have the following connections (6 way connector looking from the rear of the junction box)

Top: Black, empty, green

Bottom: Yellow, Blue, Red

The yellow and green are cut off short - don't know why. I'm hoping one of them is radio mute. If I'm even luckier I can wire the speakers through the radio too and leave out the car kit speaker, although I do not have a standard koda (Grundig) head unit, but a Clarion.

Any info gratefully received.

Nick,

I have a spare copy of the fitting instructions as I have a kit in my car & there is one in my wifes car.

I fitted them both. Dead Easy. (ISH)

Are you going to the meet on Sunday, If so I will go through the instructions with you.

There is also the ariel wire & power supply already installed. I have mine running through the Car Stereo.

(Depending upon which car you have you do not need a seperate phone antenna).

Graham,

That's great - I'll see you on Sunday. I found the instructions on the web and got the wire colours and sure enough there is a radio mute. Couldn't find how to fit it through the car speakers tho. I've bought an aerial separately but can soon sell it on again if I find I don't need it which would be even better. Icing on the cake, or what! I did notice on the web site I looked at that the combination aerials looked just like the one on my car - kind of like a central mast with a spiral wire wrapped round it - not sure if this is the clue?

Anyway - looking forward to Sunday even more now :D

I looked at that, but as I think I mentioned, I don't have the standard Skoda issue player. Still it's got to be possible hopefully... talk Sunday...

Nick,

Sorry I missed that part of the post. If you have the original instructions with a wiring diagram, we may be able to de-cipher the possibilities.

See you tomorrow.

Graham

Hi Nick,

Further to other replies on this subject, there are basically 2 method to get the phone audio through the car speakers:

1. With Skoda Symphony & possibly other Skoda units, there is an aux input feature ans my car was actually supplied with a connector shell & pins for this purpose. Also some other units, like Blaupunkt Woodstock that I have fitted, also have this feature. The great thing is that you can adjust the phone audio level using the radio volume control and get lots of it too, so no struggling to hear at Motorway speeds!

2. If your radio doesn't have a aux/tel input feature, then you can get a radio mute lead kit that basically connects between the car radio and vehicle wiring plug - this gives you power for the phone kit (usually supplied with a Nokia power plug to go straight into the black/control box) The car phone audio is normally routed throufgh the front speakers, but doesn't use the radio amplifier to increase audio level, so you adjust the level with phone volume control. The Skoda uses a std ISO connector, though when you get the mute lead kit, you need to check the permanent positve and switched positive supply positions on the connectors - VW tend to use opposite locations, which then causes poer on/memory loss problems.

Hope this helps, if you need a source for adpator lead, PM me & I can guide you in the right direction.

Regards, John.

Thanks Graham and John. Kit is now fitted and all working. Had a few confused moments when the telephone mute wouldn't work, checking and re-checking connections. I had done it all correctly - turns out you have to enable the feature on the head unit. All sorted now.

My car didn't have an integral phone aerial - guess it was too old. So I have a natty little t-bar stuck on the windscreen behind the mirror. It's only 4 inches by 1/2 an inch but seems to give perfect reception so far.
