Replacement turbo for blown Vrs

Featured Replies

Well my turbo gave up the ghost last night. Up the slip road power on and a strange whizzing sound and no power. Had a quick look and couldnt see anything wrong so limped it home.

On the way it was doing a horrible death rattle.:(:thumbdwn:

Will start and run ok just with no power and the rattle seems more and more intermitant.

Its in with the indy garage i use on Mon but what i want to know is where to get the cheapest replacement turbo?

Dont want anything fancy, hybrid or upgraded just a std replacement as im brassic atm.

A quick call and I found new for 650 ish or recon for £450 is plus vat.

Anybody got any good experience of a cheap reliable supplier ??

Hope you can help me:)

Hopefully limping along whilst the engine was making a terrible noise hasn't caused more damage.Fingers crossed.

Derv Doctor supplied me with a brand new Garrett a year ago for £700.

Not the cheapest way,but you do get what you pay for.

Best of luck.

So is the garrett a straight swap ?

does it need mapping ?

2nd hand stuff just worries me, yes its 50% cheaper than a re-con but there aint no gaurantees and it could fail tomorrow:(

You could also get a new Garrett from Turbo Dynamics for less than the dealer KKK price - that's another option.

It depends exactly which Garrett Tonto has bought, as to fitting and mapping. I presume it's a GT1749VA, which was fitted as standard to the PD130 unit used in the Golf and Bora. So aside from the outer turbo housing needing rotation for the Fabia (a simple task), everything can continue as before and map adjustment won't be necessary.

Steve

It was a straight swap,no mapping required.16k miles later,it's as sweet as a nut.
