Wire coming out the seats....?

Featured Replies

Picked up my Mk5 GTI seats this evening :thumbup::D:cool::cool:

Noticed a wire sticking out of the bottom of each one with a plug on. First thought was - side airbags (which I know GTI Golfs come with) but I also thought maybe it's for heated seats? Any easy way to tell? The wiring itself is not that chunky and I would imagine heated seats require a hefty current no?

Not sure if it would help you, but I would have thought that the connectors would be different for each application

put 12v accross random terminals. if the seat gets hot - its heated seats.

If there's a loud noise and the side of the seats explode, it was side airbags

If the above is a loom for heated seats + airbag, then what I have is just an airbag wire & plug, as there's only the one. Will just be tucking it up and tying it out the way and not trying to mongrel it into the mongrel's wiring system :D:rofl:

Can't wait for them to be in. Easily the nicest seats I've ever sat in, for comfort and support.

i think it's the pressure sensor for the seatbelt warning on the dash

Yeah, liking your thought trail there as I remember driving Dad's golf, and my audit box on the front passenger seat was enough to set it bonging away. Had to belt the box in! Maybe it combines airbag & sensor in one, as I think it was quite a big square plug with at least 4 wires coming out of it, maybe more.

AFAIK the side airbags don't require any wiring, as they are triggered by mechanical means by the trigger mechanism being compressed by the car bodywork pushing against them in a side impact.

The seats will say air bag (it may be very small and inconspicuous) on one side if they are fitted with them.

If it is any help my A3 had pressure sensors for the seat belt warning light, and they must have been wired up underneath somehow.
