How to reconnect rear washer pipe

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I previously had a problem with the spare wheel well in the boot filling with water. The boot carpet was mostly wet from rear passenger side, around the wheel arch. Dry on the drivers side. Brought it to the garage and they said the rear washer pipe was lose (althought the washer seems to be still working). After they fixed it the problem seemed to be resolved. But this morning I noticed the boot wet again

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to reconnect this pipe? If anyone can provide some help on how this is done I would greatly appreciate it.

I've just had the car in the garage having the fuel pump and clutch replaced, and I'd really like to avoid any more spend.

Anybody ?

Hi

A probable cause is that the T piece connector that links the pipe to your rear washer, one will have popped off.

Mine did this and its a known common issue.

You need to access the T piece, and it is located roughly behind the nearside rear wheelarch.

You need to remove the carpet lining from the cd changer area (has a few screws to remove) untuck it all the way to just behind the rear seats.

Once you have the carpet lining out of the way, you can see the T piece connector behind the wheel arch.

Simply push the pipe back on and refit the trim.

You might want to deploy a few jubilee clips to stop the tube ever popping off again too - make sure the tube can't shake around as you drive as this may well be the reason the tube was able to pop off - that or a blocked/partially blocked wiper nozzle :)... One thing I wonder about is why the tube doesn't just go continuously to the rear wiper with no joins to fail except at the wiper and at the tank/pump...

I wouldn't glue it for the simple reason that it will break at next weakest point.

One of the lads had his dealership tie wrap it in such a way that it wouldn't come apart. It broke right above his rear parking sensor control module.

@ irlmully there's a phillips head screw under the pull handle. Once thats out it's all snap on fittings. Wedge your fingers in along gap at boot lock and work your way around. The end at the glass needs to be moved in the direction of the glass.

Btw I see your in Ireland. If your near Blanchardstown give me a shout I can show ya.

Can anyone expand on this please as my pipe has broken and I can't get to it! Arrggghh!

Do I have to remove the CD changer, or just the carpet around it? Which screws need removing?

I've attempted this twice now with no success and I'm getting a bit frustrated with it to say the least!

You will probably need to take off the rear panel in bootlid as first connection point is to wiper motor, http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/tailgate_cover.htm

There's a screw behind the grab handle, apart from that its all snap on fittings that need to be prised off. Start at area at boot lock and work your way around, will need a bit of elbow grease. The section at the window needs to be moved in the direction of the window.

IF that's connected the next point would be at left rear wheelarch. The plastic section around the bootlock receiver needs removing, there's 2 plastic nuts that need removing then pull vertically upwards as again there's snap on fittings.. Then remove the Net catch and pull back carpet.

Btw don't know about CD Changer, as I don't have one.

Thanks for the tips :)

I went back and had another crack at it - I removed the bag hook and net hook, along with some black plastic caps next to the CD changer and after untucking the carpet from the rubber boot seal, I gave the carpet a damned good tugging!

I managed to pull enough of it out to get a look behind the wheelarch, and hey presto, I could see the little bugger, complete with broken connection!

It's unbelievably hard to get to, but with a torch between my teeth, I could see enough to get my hands in and push the two ends of the pipe together, not before I got a load of kitchen towel and forced it down behind the wheelarch to soak up all the screenwash that had collected down there. It's not a very solid-feeling connection though - I just hope it doesn't come apart anytime soon, as it's a real pain to sort!

mine has same problem, glad i come accross im going to pull my car apart now. and check were the fault is, my skoda is slolwy becoming faulty everywere at only 38k miles its winding me up :(
